Inaccessible Boot Device after Acer Update (Spin SP513-54N)

Hello everyone,

My Acer laptop did an update that I haven't seen before. After the update, no operating system can boot.

At the very least, I'd like to access the bios advanced settings, but those seem to be hidden.

Any advice or help? Please let me know if you have any

  • Hello! What is the exact model? Example: AN515-55-5890. Does the Acer logo appear? Can you access the bios by pressing the f2 key?

Often when MS does an EFI update, it messes up the BIOS settings. Boot into the BIOS and use F9 to reset to defaults, then F10 to save and exit. Most BIOSes don't have an advanced menu, they only put those in when they have a function they'd really rather you not mess with. If you turn on the F12 Boot Menu in the Main tab of the BIOS you should be able to see the bootable devices by using F12 during POST. Choose the correct one and it will usually be saved as the default.

Windows11 BIOS and driver (in automatic) updating is optional, you have to click on Install to make that happen and has a warning "At your own peril" and "Don't install optional updates if you don't have any issues".

If some BIOS settings are hidden, Ctrl+S (Sierra not 5) will unhide these, reset BIOS to factory defaults, save on exit and reboot. If this was not a BIOS issue and you can get to the Acer logo after you boot you can restart in Safe Mode by pressing Alt+F10 right after the Acer logo, this will show the blue Troubleshoot screen>Restart>F4 or 4>Safe Mode, now you can either configure a Clean Boot with MSCONFIG (Windows key + R), run with only Base Video (in Boot tab) that disables your display drivers or delete your apps in the Startup tab Task Manager. Troubleshoot can also system restore, uninstall the last Windows update and RESET this PC with or without losing files.

If you cannot get BIOS to work, it may be corrupted and follow the CMOS reset procedures on this forum to refresh BIOS or try this link: https://www.lifewire.com/how-to-clear-cmos-2624545

I have the same problem with my laptop, A515-55-711M. Cannot get into BIOS. Nothing but a blank screen. Even with external monitor. Shuts off after a minute.

@Rileke that's a different issue than an inaccessible boot device. Use the Ask a Question button to create a new thread for your issue. Include your full model number, what the issue is and what you have tried so far.
