Need help with installing ram on Acer Aspire 715-41G

Sorry in advance for any grammar mistakes!

I'm currently using a Acer Aspire 715-41G laptop, it has one 8Gb dddr4 2666hz Kingston ram pre-install. I just bought another 8gb DDDR4 3200hz Kingston ram to upgrade, but when I plug in the 2nd ram stick, the laptop did not register. I thought at first that I bought a dead ram but when I install the new ram to slot 1 (slot 2 empty), the laptop registers it as normal.

I then attempt to leave the slot 1 empty and plug one ram in slot 2, the laptop did not boot up, only the fan spins and the keyboard lit up.

Any help!?

    Before doing anything inside your laptop, disable Fast Startup in Power Plan (Change what closing the lid does) and completely shut down (no sleep, no hibernate, shutdown by clicking on Power in Start only). Unplug the adapter and open the laptop. Disconnect the battery cable connector at the motherboard with your fingernails (may be a tight connection). I hope you did disconnect the battery first when you replaced the DDR4s.

    That is correct it requires a DDR4 module in slot 1, won't boot when slot 1 is left empty.

    This model laptop comes with 8GB (1x 8192MB) - DDR4, 2666MHz, your clock speed is 2667 MHz. You should have bought the same DDR4 as the one that is installed in slot1: 8GB, 2666MHz. I recommend that you get exactly the same Kingston, CL, everything the same including the part number. This DDR4 set will run in Dual Mode that is supported by the CPU and you may even get a speed of 30 GByte/sec. average (Reading/Writing/Copying) and that is better than the max. clock speed.

    Thanks very much for the help. I have been wondering the same issue and been looking for a ram with that bus speed but there isn't any available in my area, so can I run two stick with 3200 bus instead? Is it any chance that my 2nd slot is dead? if so, how can I test it.

    My cpu is the AMD Ryzen 5 3550H.

    Look for it online what part number is on that DDR4 in slot 1? I recommend you stick with the original 2666 MHz Kingston.

    Yes you can buy a set with 3200 MHz frequency, but it will still clock at 2667 MHz, and make sure it is a set (also called kit) exactly the same CL, part number everything, copy all the specs from the Kingston in Slot 1 and search online.

    There is nothing wrong with your slot 2, if you shortened out a slot by having some charge on the DDR4 both slots would not work, and you won't be able to boot. Discharge the MOBO after you disconnect the battery by keeping the Power Button pressed down for 1 minute.

    @kirktran Important:

    I did a bit more reading on your laptop and found out it has an AMD Ryzen 5 CPU, is that correct? Mix & Matching different RAM modules is a bad idea when it comes to Ryzen Motherboards, If you have a Ryzen no wonder you could not boot with that frequency mismatch.

    Take my advice and look for another 2600MHz Kingston same rows, same CL, same part number everything, your MBO is very finnicky with RAM upgrades.

    Thank you so much! Knowing that my slot 2 is ok really put my mind at ease.

    I think I would go with the buying a kit plan as the ram with the same part number as mine has been discontinued (I have messaged Acer customer service) (I also found some online but shipping national-wide would be a hassle).

    Again, thank you very much sir! I'll try to update as soon as possible.
