Upgrade LCD on Aspire 3 317-33 laptop

I have Aspire 3 317-33 laptop with Intel N4500 cpu. It has BOE NV173FHM-N49 panel. This panel has 30 pin eDP connector and there is a 40 pin eDP connector on the motherboard. A 40 pin to 30 pin eDP cable is used to connect the panel. There are videos on Youtube of replacing 30 pin eDP panels with 40 pin eDP panels, QHD or FHD with higher refresh rates on Acer laptops. Since there is a 40 pin eDP connector on the motherboard and N4500 is supposed to support up to 4K 60Hz eDP output, I was wondering if 40 pin eDP panel with QHD at144 or 165 Hz and 40 pin to 40 pin eDP cable will work with this laptop?

Hi,

There's an outside chance it may work, your model supports 3840x2160 resolution, but I couldn't find any compatible 4k panels for your model, I have compared two panels from Acer Nitro model( 144Hz and 165Hz), you will have to buy the appropriate eDP cable for the panel.

Cable for 144Hz(FHD): 50.Q83N2.008

Cable for 165Hz(2560x1440): 50.QC6N2.001

The first two panels are supported by your model, the last two panels are for Acer Nitro model, please compare them and decide on the upgrade, as you have said that your motherboard has 40 pin connector, you could try the upgrade at your own risk because I couldn't find anyone attempted this upgrade.

Just in additon and for your information, have a look at this site LS Screens site as they have all the screens for the A317-33 laptop, and look at this 17" panel 40 pin 144Hz refresher (there is no 165Hz refresher rate for this laptop) rate for the Aspire 3 317-33 laptop and its in the list of your laptops oem screen list the BOE NV173FHM-N49 $84.99 - this is the higher spec screen and its the NV173FHM-N44 V3.1 $93.99 - Part Type: LCD Screen - Size:17.3" WideScreen - Resolution: FHD (1920x1080) - Refresh Rate:144Hz - Video Connector:40 pin video connector

I have looked at 30 pin eDP 17,3" FHD 60 Hz panels on panelook.com and decided to buy AUO B173HAN04.3 since, based on reviews, it has 98% sRGB coverage vs 50 % sRGB for BOE NV173FHM-N49 I currently have. It also has better backlight uniformity and viewing angles. However, QHD panels with 144/165 Hz are only 10-30 USD more expensive on AliExpress compared to FHD 60 Hz panels, BOE NE173QHM-NY6 QHD 165 Hz has 99% DCI-P3 coverage and response time of less than 10 ms. That is why I am searching if 40 pin eDP panel will work in my A417-33 laptop. 4K panels are ~300 USD, so not an option for me. I will likely go with the safe 30 pin FHD 60 Hz option. I will post here if it worked after I actually replace the panel in my laptop.
