My ACER ASPIRE A515-56 (running W10) BIOS version is currently 1.31 but...

I just noticed now there is a version 1.33 available. This new version just states this: "[W/A] Force do one time cold boot after flash BIOS." - what does that mean?

Do I really need to upgrade to 1.33 if all appears ok with v1.31? I guess I'm asking how serious/critical is this upgrade?

Unfortunately I seem unable to find any details on what this BIOS upgrade really does other than Acer's 1 liner of "[W/A] Force do one time cold boot after flash BIOS."

Thanks if anyone has info on this.

    Hi Tarj

I don't recommend experimenting with BIOS you should never have to touch your BIOS unless you cannot start your laptop. What you should do (I strongly recommend this) is upgrade to Windows11 22H2, why are you not upgrading? Your laptop is 100% compatible with W11 (see red circle below)

I've heard always have your BIOS up-to-date with the latest version…AND I've also heard exactly what you stated about don't touch it unless you need to.

I am going to go with your advice here on this; as I don't see any reason for this BIOS update (in my case currently; and as well since no one really knows what it pertains to). If, however, it was some security vulnerability matter, then I would.

Very good question Puraw - I have tried using W11 but at this point did not like the "feel" of it for some reason. Although it is similar to W10, it has options and menus that I find make it cumbersome to navigate through. Since I am so accustomed to W10 and it still is being supported by Microsoft until Oct. 14, 2025 - and since W11, that I can tell, doesn't have anything about it that makes my daily computing better I therefore feel sticking with W10 suits my needs for now. Dunno - what made you goto W11 out of curiosity?

I migrated from W1 to W11 Home 22H2 during the past 3 decades and never regretted any upgrades I was always far ahead of peers who balked at the newer Windows versions. Innovation by the tech industry in the USA always improved my way of living, for tools, PCs, media, electronics, communications, you name it. The best OLED screens are made by Samsung in SK but the technology is still USA (Eastman Kodak company in 1987).

The (bi) monthly updates install flawlessly with W11 22H2 that was getting better in W10 22H2 but still can cause issues (see this forum). I get great support on elevenforum (run by Shawn Brink), better than tenforums. W11 registry seems more robust too, no need to restore (never used it). I don't have a need for GPedit but will have W11 Pro on my next laptop in 2024.

W10 Home 21H2v was stable but still produced lot's of errors (Event logs), you can read on this forum about all the GPU driver and booting issues in Windows10, none of that happens with factory installed Windows11 (or upgraded to W11 by Windows10 automatic update). I never crash, never have apps freezing on me and only use 4.5 GB RAM (8 DDR4 RAM total). I have a 4-year-old Aspire5 a515-54G laptop (most reliable system I ever had). But I never touch BIOS, it was upgraded last year by W11 update (optional). My RAM speed (Dual Channel) is higher than the MOBO clock speed of 2667 MHz, my average read/write/copy speed is 28 GByte/sec. CPU is constantly near zero (10th Gen. i7). I am not a gamer.

W11 Defender is great, updates at the background in W11 (installing went often wrong in W10), security is also better that W10 but I don't know about that
