I want to thank those who responded to my questions about my Aspire 5 A514-55 laptop. I followed the advice/instructions given. But in installing the HDD and new SSD drive, and the RAM - being very careful in doing so. Now it won't even boot up. It seems to be (for want of a better expression) deader than a doornail. I took the bottom off and in so doing voided the warranty - which (yes…I know) I should not have done…

One mistake I realized I likely made was (1) put a 16 GB ram stick in the slot with 8 GB already onboard which add up to 24 GB, which is 4 GB too much- or is it? So I removed the 16 GB ram stick, and tried booting up - still deader than a doornail. Then (2) I removed the HDD and yet again it was deader than a doornail…

I'm realizing that I should not have tried doing this myself, and I've berated myself for it - just ask my wife… LAUGHING

That having been said…

Can I run booth a SSD and HHD drive together? With C being the drive with the operating system and all the rest, and the D drive for storage of miscellaneous files? And then have my external drive as the E drive?

You can use ssd and hdd on the same computer. You can install operating system on ssd. Use the hdd for storage. When you boot the computer using ssd boot time will be less. It will be much faster when compared to using the hdd as the c drive.

Next time when you try to install ssd, ram or hdd please dont hesitate to get help from us, we are ready to send pictures from service manual on how to remove the hdd, ssd, memory and how to add the memory, ssd and hdd. Now a days lot of videos are available on youtube too.
