Nitro 5 (AN515-57-700J) keeps randomly having performance drop to unusability

NOTE: I am running Win 10 Home

So, for the past few weeks while I have been playing games, the laptop's performance will completely drop off the cliff, so framerates in the game will drop to about 1-2 FPS. Even after getting the game and everything else closed, the desktop will still run at about 1-2 FPS. I was able to get into Task Manager once and there was nothing that was taking up a lot of resources. I am wondering what this is and if I can fix it or if my laptop is pretty much bricked.

    I should have clarified:

The performance will be good for about an hour or two, and then it will drop off. Thank you for your quick response though.

When it decreases, check in the task manager which applications and/or resources are currently consuming a lot of cpu, memory and disk.

There is nothing that is taking extreme amounts of resources in Task Manager.

It's not a constant lack of performance, it is a sudden loss of almost all performance after a while of good performance.

Have you been able to check if the problem is the same when it is on battery or if you use the charger?

No, I have not. The battery usually runs out before it happens. It has also just started crashing after around 10 seconds of the performance dropping. No blue screen, just turns off.

I'm sorry, but I don't know what the problem could be, wait for more answers.

You wrote that after 1-2 hours the performance problems start. Your model comes with a 58 Wh battery and 180 W power adapter, check if your power adapter is indeed 180 W. Your battery is very small for a gaming laptop barely enough for 2 hours routine work without an adapter which could explain the problems you are getting if the (4 year old?) battery is about to die (or the adapter capacity is not/no longer 180 W).

I suggest creating a battery report by typing the following line in the command prompt:

    powercfg /batteryreport /output %USERPROFILE%\Desktop\battery_report.html

Open the report on your desktop (double click) and check the Full Charged Capacity record of the last 3 days, if that is way below 58 Wh and decreasing by the day you need to replace your battery ($25). If you have installed the new battery let it drain (unplug the adapter) till 10% and then charge to 100% (only the first time to let Windows register the capacity). If problems continue with a new battery and the new Battery Report still indicates low Full Charged Capacity, you have to replace the power adapter ($40).

If you recently replaced your battery already and the adapter is new with the correct wattage I recommend to bring/ship your laptop to Acer Service for checking.

It is indeed a 180W power adapter. I should have noted that I am almost always using the laptop on the power adapter with the top closed and 2 1440P monitors attached via the HDMI port and the thunderbolt port.
