Acer Aspire 3 A315 - 59 - Battery full capacity suddenly reduced.

Acer Aspire 3 A315 - 59.

Purchased new December 2022.

The Design Capacity of my laptop's battery is just under 42,000 mWhr, according to 2 independent battery monitoring apps. The Full Charge Capacity (FCC) has always shown as very slightly above that - about 42,500 mWhr.

In the last day or two, the same two monitor apps have shown FCC has fallen to 35,000. I have changed nothing on the computer.

I always try to keep the battery between 15% > 65% of FCC. Not always successfully but the charger is very rarely left plugged in once 100% is reached, if it should reach that level while preoccupied

with another task . I almost never leave the laptop charging when unattended - certainly not for hours at a time.

Is there a fault? Any suggestions for solution? Acer Warranty issue? Thanks.

General consensus of this forum on Lithium Ion batteries is that "overcharging" limit of 80% and “undercharging” limit of 40% has never been proven, just anecdotal; I recommend that you uninstall all those Battery Monitors/charge Controllers (disable Acer Care) and only use HWINFO and Windows’ Battery report to check your battery wear. Also the Designed Capacity is a (inflated) commercial figure stated by the vendor and not an actual measured value of your battery therefore if your full charged capacity exceeds even a little bit this designed capacity (is always lower) your battery capacity has not yet been properly validated by Windows. This happens with new batteries. So let your battery drain to 8-10% by unplugging your adapter during work, make sure that you have your advanced Power Plan setting set to hibernate below 10% to avoid that your battery won't drain, by accident, below the 2% threshold that may damage a battery. Plug in your adapter and charge to 100%, create a battery report by typing/pasting in the Command Prompt: powercfg /batteryreport /output %USERPROFILE%\Desktop\battery_report.html

Open the file “battery_report.html” on your Desktop (double click) and note down you Full Charged Capacity. This should not drop the first 6 months, my battery that I installed last October still has zero wear (after daily intensive use). Don't calculate Wear like HWINFO does by dividing your Full Charge by the Designed Charge but use your initial Full Charge Capacity instead of the Designed Capacity (a fictitious number)

The software on the battery never go down gradually it tend to log noticeable change probably based on voltage and charge time to estimate the life. You will see it saying full then after two years you will see the capacity take a big drop. After the first drop it tends to start to drop quickly after that.
