Acer S200HQL monitor - input not supported

Hi everyone! I've stumbled upon the community in search of an answer as to why my laptop is unable to use my Acer monitor for dual screen purposes.

Acer model - S200HQL monitor with only VGA connection.

I am using a Windows 10 laptop with specs for display:

desktop and active signal resolution: 1920 x 1080

refresh rate Hz: 60.027 Hz

bit depth: 6-bit

Color format RGB

The laptop has only an HDMI connection.

Appreciate any help so I can use this monitor as a second screen. I also have bought a new cable which is an HDMI to VGA cable so it may not be the cable that's the problem.

Thank you!

It should work, assuming the cable is good. What do you see on the monitor when you first turn it on? Do you get a splash screen? With the cable connected to the HDMI out on your laptop and the VGA port on the monitor does anything show up on the display? What laptop is it? What OS is running on it? If you are in Windows then a Windows-P should give you the options to display only one the laptop, only one the external monitor, to duplicate the laptop screen to the monitor and to extend the laptop screen to the monitor. You likely want the very last option there, extend.
