Thinking of buying one of these from Vurry's in the UK.

Can someone please help - I intend to use at home with an external docking station to connect peripherals - can someone please tell me will this devices charge over the USB C connection from the dock and will it recognise the Ethernet connection on the dock.

If not may have to go for the ACER Aspire 5 14" Laptop - Intel® Core™ i5, 512 GB SSD, Grey

Anyone like to comment how th two compair, I like the idea of having the mobile SIM in the Swift for when out and about.

Thanks

Pat

I understand you say "Thinking of buying one of these from Vurry's in the UK. We are glad that you are showing up your interest in purchasing a brand new computer.

Please visit the website – support.acer.com – chose your country – click on shop.   It will show you all the latest and new computers.    You can see all the models from low end to high end configurations.   You can look at all the models one by one.   Please chose the best one which suits your budget and needs.   You can also buy desktop, laptop, monitor and accessories.

Alternatively,  on the top right corner you can find the phone no to contact Acer store.   If you need more details you can call and check with them.

You need to have a compatible docking station which work with the Usb C connection and ethernet port. You might have to contact the docking station vendor or purchase a compatible docking station which work with your new Laptop. Most of the laptops are having ethernet port and Usb C Connection. However, before you buy the laptop please check the specifications of laptop and then purchase it.

The Swift 3 14" laptop does not have a mobile SIM, it can be connected to a mobile phone for web access but it does not do mobile phone things, where did you get that from? Both the Swift and Aspire 5 are pretty much the same laptops and the same price, they are both good student laptops but aint gaming laptops, so remember that.

These laptops can have a hub connected to them for extra peripherals but you don’t really need one as they both have a type-A and Type-C USB ports; there's one USB-C port with Thunderbolt 4 support on the left edge, along with a USB 3.2 Type-A port and an HDMI video output and can be charged also through a USB-C. Its best to not use an Ethernet cable and use the excellent new Wi-Fi that these laptops have, its more convenient and mor mobile. If I would buy any of these two laptops I would go for the Swift 3 as it’s a newer laptop design and has more features.

You don't specify which Acer model Curry's is offering. Current models could be the 11th gen, 12th gen or 13th gen Intel based systems, depending on how long they have been on the shelf. If I were to guess I'd guess it was a 12th gen SF314-512. The TBT4 ports on that model have these specs:

So most docking stations readily available will do system charging, Ethernet and video without issues.
