I have a Aspire 5 (A514-55) Laptop and it is equipped with a 12th Gen Intel Core i5-1235u.

do I need to add in one more ram onto this machine to properly enable Iris® Xe Graphics as the system must be in dual-channel memory configuration, otherwise, it will show Intel UHD Graphics? [source]

much thanksss

Looking good to me, speed is very good, you have 1x 8GB DDR4 and that is plenty for Windows11, no need for Dual Channel unless you want more RAM for heavy games then add another 8 GB DDR4 module exactly the same brand, CL, voltage and frequency, even the brand and model number that you have now to get the best results.

@baozaboy try to update the latest driver first, https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/download/726609/intel-arc-iris-xe-graphics-whql-windows.html . If that doesn't work, your laptop must be in dual-channel mode in order for the Iris Xe to show up. https://radu.link/intel-iris-xe-single-channel-ram-downgrades-uhd/

    @baozaboy

No idea what DDR4 is soldered on your MOBO, I have a515-54G and 4GB is soldered on my MOBO with 1 free slot, for me to go Dual Channel I only had the option to add another 4GB (8 GB total). All Laptop reviews state the same for your model (4 GB soldered). But that picture of Task Manager states 8 GB onboard with 1 free slot and that indicates that you could add another 8 GB to go Dual Channel required for Intel Iris, according to you and @AnhEZ28.

So open your laptop and find out how many slots you have and if only 1 slot (like my model) run this command (opened as administrator) to see what is soldered on the MOBO (considered as a "slot 1" by Task Manager):

    Elevated command:

wmic MemoryChip get Banklabel, Capacity, Configuredclockspeed, Devicelocator, FormFactor, Manufacturer, Serialnumber, Speed

If indeed 8 GB is soldered and only 1 slot is free get another 8GB DDR4 just like the specs in WMIC.

    Hope this answers you question😉

so for this latop , the ram is soldered or slot?
cuz opening the back casing to access the motherboard/ram will void the warranty sticker

Don't worry your warranty won't be cancelled when opening the back of the laptop to upgrade the memory or replace the battery, even illegal in the USA to cancel a warranty because of routine procedures. Acer publishes that warning to discourage users from tinkering with new factory installed equipment. But when you connect your laptop to a large e-bike charger via a laptop USB port, like reported yesterday on this forum, and blow-up the MOBO, yes that would probably void the warranty😀

Unfortunately there is some confusion on the Aspire5 memory configuration and publications, the 2019 models appear to all have 4G DDR4 modules soldered with 1 slot free, depending on the CPU that will support clock speeds between 3200 MHz to 4266 MHz (your model) and some Aspire models don't have the DDR4 soldered but have 2 slots for 2 replaceable DDR4s and that may be your model so you can go up to 2x16GB DDR4 in Dual Channel and you may get a maximum of 4266 MHZ, I would also talk to the Acer dealer who sold you this laptop about RAM upgrades, unless you got it online (no point).

I don't live in USA, I lived in Singapore so will it be cancelled when opening the back of the laptop to upgrade the memory or replace the storage.

No your warranty won't be cancelled by Acer in Singapore if you opened the laptop to upgrade your RAM. I had my Aspire5 serviced several months after my warranty expired and upgraded my RAM and still was charged nothing by Acer in Manila.

I just contact acer singapore and they say the warranty will be cancel by them

    any advise?
I still have 3 more year of onsite warranty and Idk if i should just risk it and go ahead or play safe.
whats the chances of a new laptop breaking down within a year?

    Hi @baozaboy

Just risk it is my advice, how can you wait 3 years not replacing your battery, not upgrading the SSD, cleaning the fan or check the connections in case your laptop won't start? Acer Service in the Philippines states the same, that is Acer's worldwide policy and I wrote you my experience in Manila even after the warranty on my latop was already expired.

If you are really that worried about warranties and like to play things safe you should have ordered your laptop with Dual Chanel DDR4s or looked for a model that includes RAM fully compatible with Intel's Iris GPU.

@baozaboy they would only void the warranty if the newly installed part causes damage to the laptop or accident during installation.

@baozaboy likely hard to cause damage if you do it carefully.
