Saying Aspire 5 means nothing, give us the exact model number of your laptop! As charging and battery overheating and laptop overheating issues are from many sources like the battery, charging port and internal either the charging or power stages that could have faulty circuitries. Take your laptop to a technician or if your laptop is under warranty then consult Acer for repairs.

If you are playing games you should always have your power adapter plugged in, don't play games on battery only. If your laptop still overheats with the adapter plugged in check if dirt has accumulated at the fan outlet/heat sink inlet, you need to open the laptop to clean the fan and outlets properly, but always disconnect the battery cable from the motherboard when checking/cleaning/upgrading.

On the charging issue two things; your power adapter is failing and/or your battery is bad. I would first check your battery condition by running a Battery Report (assuming you have Windows10-11). Type/paste the following in the Command Prompt:

    powercfg /batteryreport /output %USERPROFILE%\Desktop\battery_report.html

Open the file "battery_report.html" on your desktop (double click) and look at your Full Charge Capacity if that is zero or very low your battery died and you need to replace it ($50). If your battery is OK (Full Charge=Design Charge Capacity) you need a new adapter ($20-40). Also check the barrel port (for the power adapter to plug in) on your laptop, is the adapter plug very loose and when you move the plug a bit it starts/stops charging? If that is the case you still need a new adapter, but make sure you buy the correct one with the correct tip for your Aspire5 model. Some Aspire5 laptop adapter plugs have a very thin (yellow) tip (inside 1.1mm).
