Is that OK for Nitro 5 AN515-44 laptop to discharge battery even while being completely powered off?

Battery of my almost new Nitro 5 AN515-44(AMD Ryzen 5 4600H) dischardges at 1,5% per day while being completely powered off! Is that OK? My old laptop from Acer (4 years old) holds charge a lot better. Even after 3-6 month it stayes at the same level of charge. Yes I`ve checked it few times. As for Nitro 5, battery discharged to 0% in less then two month of storage. Quick Access → USB power is OFF. And i don`t have any periphery connected. Windows 10 x64, i don`t use Sleep mode, and Power Off by Start → Shut Down. What drains power? Yes i know that battery has it`s own controller, but this rate of discharge is crazy. Something in laptop is constantly working, and i want to know what it is and how to disable it. This is not my primary laptop and i use it from time to time, do i have to babysit it, by charging every month? How to store this laptop?

This should be normal for gaming laptops.

There are many reasons why gaming laptop batteries drain so fast, for instance, there could be too many processes running in the background. Gaming applications or any other desktop app can also drain the battery. Your system can be running on high brightness or other advanced options. Too many online and network connections can also cause this problem.When your computer requires more power than the AC adapter can provide, it will stop charging to allow it to draw additional power from the battery. The system will resume charging the battery when the power demands are lower. This may occur during heavy gaming sessions.If the battery discharges below 30% while using the AC adapter, the system will stop using power from the battery until the charge is above 40% again.

THE SOLUTION

first u need to press windows button and type services and open it
now u need to find performance log & alerts option double click it to open and click the option in startup type to automatic and press apply and ok
now right click on the same performance logs & alerts option and select to start
now go to the windows option and type msconfig and press enter to system configuration
find the services tab and open it
now check the tab hide all microsoft services
after that u see alots of unchecked services
now u need to checked it all and then press disable all and apply and ok and restart ur laptop
now check the windows update if there is an update then download and intall it
now press windows key and search and open cmd by selecting run as administrator
now in the cmd u need to type gpupdate without any space and press enter and wait fot it to done
after that u need to type the command
chkdsk c: /f
and press enter after it done press y and then enter
now u just need to restart the laptop and then the screen shows to skip press any key but u need it to run so dont press any key to skip and after it done
then u can check ur battery time sayin 4 hrs plus left
after doing the solution u just need to reinstall nvidia vga latest driver and nitro sense application after

Is that some random copy-paste advice? Laptop is powered off. What OS process or application can be running in the background??? System can be running on high brightness? What? Please read before post.

Hi @Lextersmith I am not sure this can solve the problem but try it please, when you have the computer stored for a long time, it is not good, from the electronic point of view, to have the battery charged in maximum values, go to Acer care Center and activate the load limitation and save the computer with those values:

Care Center - Check - Battery status - Scroll down from the right with the ">" symbol - Activate the "Battery charge limit" option

When your battery loses 1.5% charge/day while fully shutting down (Fast Startup disabled in Windows 10) you have a bad battery.

If you are on "Optimized for Performance" Power Plan change that to "Ballanced" and try that for a couple of days. Then create a battery report in Windows 10 by typing or pasting this line in the Command Prompt:

powercfg /batteryreport /output %USERPROFILE%\Desktop\battery_report.html

Open the file "battery_report.html" on your Desktop (double click) and look at the Full Charged Capacity column over the last 3 days, if you see that dropping by >1% your battery cannot hold its charge and you should get a new one, also compare the full charged with the designed charge capacity that should be only slightly lower for a new good battery. A battery can be ruined quickly by discharging it to zero😐️

Hi! Thanks for the advice, but "Battery Charge Limit" helps to not overcharge battery while using laptop being connected to power grid. Charging stops at 80%. I`m already use this mode.

I`ve checked battery report, that is how i`ve discovered 1,5% / day power drain.
My battery holds 40min of playing in videogames and almost 6 hours of network browsing with WiFi on.
I guess it`s something on laptops motherboard consume power.
Can it be that new laptop have burnt component with short circuit?
Or it`s some OS-Hardware-BIOS-UEFI glitch?

Checked Power states in Win10 ( https://windowsreport.com/how-to-enable-s3-sleep-state/ ), and I have only S3 supported. But i don`t use Hibernate or Sleep modes.

Also tried all of this ( https://windowsreport.com/battery-drain-shutdown/ ), still no luck.

Anyway, thanks for the advices!

Try disabling fast startup in power options and then disabling usb charging via quick accesse. Then check if the battery continues to discharge.

Usb Charging is disabled, i've checked it with usb-led light. Fast startup is disabled too.

It's disabled. Also i checked if any other device can wake laptop(driver options). But this is not the case. Thanks!

Here is my BIOS settings (Main section):
Network Boot - [Disabled]
Wake on LAN - [Disabled]
USB Wake from S4 Support - [Disabled]
Lid Open Resume - [Disabled]
Wake on USB while lid closed - [Disabled]
Fast Boot - [Disabled]

Acer Quick Access →USB Charging is OFF

I have two additional SSD installed: one is M2, other is SATA.
Right now I`m gonna disable them in BIOS (Advanced -> Storage Device Configuration), just to check.

Also I`ll try to disable WiFi before shutting down OS (Sleep mode and Hibernate modes are already disabled in OS, I don`t use them). Bluetooth is Off.

No external devices connected. Laptop stored in dry and cool place.

It is strange what happens, from my point of view it can happen:
-Defective battery
-BIOS that does not properly manage shutdown and remains in a standstill similar to sleep with load consumption
But, logically, I could be wrong.
Have you noticed if it is hot the first time you turn it on? This could confirm consumption while off.
What BIOS version is installed?
The latest is 1.04, although neither this version, nor the previous ones, seem to correct any problem related to the battery.

03.04.2023 Battery was charged to 100%, Wifi\Bluetooth disabled, two additional SSD disabled in BIOS, no external devices connected, and OS is Powered OFF completly with "shutdown.exe -s -f -t 0" command.
08.04.2023 Battery at 95% (53 284 mWh). Laptop was stored in cool, dry place.

Self discharge rate is 1 ~ 1.5% per day.

There is nothing I can do with that.

Hello everyone! This issue has arisen despite my device being new and not even three months old. I used to not encounter this problem when my Windows system was in fast boot mode. However, once I disabled it, this issue started occurring. According to expectations, when the battery is charged and I shut down the device, there shouldn't be any battery drain. So, this seems to be a flaw with the device itself, despite its newness and short usage duration of less than three months😀

Modern Standby in Windows10 22H2 is in control of power management (the new "sleep mode"). Acer will probably update 2021 BIOS soon so you can upgrade to W11 23H2 with better ACPI battery control. Meanwhile try to disable USB Selective Suspend in Power Plan-Advanced settings, turn off power savings in PCIe and in Network adapters Properties Power Management. Check also QA agents in Services they may still be running even after you uninstallled Acer Quick Access. Disable Hibernate and Fast Startup in Power Plan-"Change what closing the lid does".

This is true, to some extent. Though windows manages power, the laptop manufacturer too needs to handle it. I have multiple Acer and Dell laptops at home (gaming and non gaming both).

I have set up both my Acer and Dell gaming laptops with the exact same configuration and OS (Windows 10 22H2). Exact same setups cos i have the fixed set of software and utilities on both. Both configured to not allow USBs to supply power to external devices when laptop turned off.

But then… Acer laptop battery starts losing power daily at a slow rate reaching 0 within a few weeks. On the other hand the Dell stays put where it is even after a few days indicating a much stronger power usage cut off. So certainly this is a much needed update needed on Acer laptops.

This is happened on Asus laptops too - losing power over time when in storage, but it is slightly slower than Acer (nonetheless still losing).

I am posting this cos I too faced this issue, and tried it out on the below laptops in summer.

Dell 5430 - no power loss
Dell Alienware M16R1 - no power loss
Acer Nitro 7 - power loss
Acer Nitro 5 - power loss, but less
Acer Swift 5 - power loss, but much lesser
Asus X515 - power loss, but less

Irrespective of gaming or non gaming type of laptop, it is happening.

Good news!! I've identified the issue with a USB port that I suspect might be intended for charging, similar to a power bank (though I'm uncertain if this is one of its functions) I discovered this while using a USB hub connected to it I noticed that the hub's indicator light remains constantly on, confirming that this port allows direct power draw even when the device is powered off I'm not sure if it's possible to adjust this setting from the BIOS, as I haven't researched that yet However, when I switched to the second port, the indicator light turned off when the device was powered off
