The computer will not detect my usb c -to hdmi cable, nor did it detect the usb to hdmi cable, the only thing it detecte was the splitter which mirrors the display, which I do not want, I want an extended display.

An HDMI splitter will give you two displays, but they will have the same image on each. You want a dock that generates it's own video signal. All USB 3.0 docks with HDMI or DP (or for that matter VGA or DVI) on them will work, and the USB-C docks that doesn't require DP Alt Mode will also work. Careful on the USB-C docks, you often have to dig into the fine print to see when they require Alt Mode...
