What is the model of the Acer Chromebook that you have? As this should not be happening after a reset or reboot. This laptop could have internal circuitry issues that stop the power settings from working properly and needs analysing by an experienced tech and appropriate parts replace. If your laptop is under warranty then send it to Acer as this is covered under warranty.

I have a chromebook 317 as this was my husbands laptop. He told me that this has been going on since we bought the laptop. I find that the laptop is out of warranty but would like to get this corrected as the laptop is getting updates for a few more years.

@Jconley, we have to ask the same question since neither you or the original poster told what machine you have. It's better to start your own thread so you can mark it solved when appropriate. Use the Ask a Question button, include your full model number (Your full model number is usually on the same sticker as your serial number, it should look something like xxxxx-xxx-xxxx.), describe what's going on and what you have tried so far.
