Hi all, was wondering if someone could help me please?

I have recently done a full reset on an Aspire V5-571P.

Since then my laptop seems to crash when starting up. Pressing the power on button, the laptop shows the Acer logo on screen with the loading spinner underneath. After a couple of spins from the loading the spinner the laptop seems to crash and restart the power up process again.

Im not sure what to try to solve the problem Im having so any help is much appericated.

Bring your laptop to Acer Service to check the HDD since this is 10 years old it probably needs to be replaced.

Thanks so much for your comment. So does this mean you think the HDD is broken and I need to buy a new one?

    Hi @Jacko517

There may be other causes like a faulty MOBO but the HDD is always the first to fail and 9-10 years is the lifespan for a mechanical HDD. If you feel adventurous and would like to check the status of your HDD you need another Windows PC with testing freeware that you can download from hwinfo.com either 32 or 64 bit format depending on your PC Windows version:

First buy a USB2.0 external HDD case (for $5) in any computer shop (or online) if your other PC only has USB3.0+ ports get a universal 2.0 + 3.0 external HDD case ($7) and open your Aspire V5-571P laptop, disconnect the internal battery cable, take out your old HDD and mount it in the external USB case, bootup that second PC and connect the external HDD to a USB port, try different USB ports if the HDD is not detected, start your HWINFO program, close HWINFO system summary (x) and click on drives, select the HDD inside the USB external case and look for yellow triangles with an exclamation mark, that drive many not have SMART firmware but Device Status will show the most important functions for a HDD: Read Recovery Attempts (low number), Number of Reported Uncorrectable Errors (must be zero), Number of Mechanical Start Failures (also zero) and 3-4 other critical tests that should all have green circles with a checkmark. If any of these tests failed you can buy a new 1 TB Sata HDD for $30 (I don't recommend to switch to the latest 2.5" SATA SSD drives for your old laptop), initiate/format that drive in the external HDD case with the PC (Disk Manager) and install it in your laptop, reconnect your battery cable and see if the laptop will boot to the BIOS screen. Then you will have to install the OEM drivers and Acrer's Windows version: I recommend you ask Acer Service to do all that for you (service costs $25) but at least you know now that you have a good drive😉. That way you can also transfer (copy & Paste) all your personal files to that 2nd PC and reformat the HDD in the external USB case if the drive still tested OK and you want Acer Service to check your laptop (for privacy and security).
