Hello, i was hoping to upgrade the CPU on my Aspire X3-100 from the A10-5700 APU to the A10-6800K. Will the BIOS accept this? Is an update required, or should i have bought the 5800K?

The Acer bios for your Aspire X3-100 desktop with its oem A10-5700 cpu only caters for and maybe up an improved cpu performance upgrade of the Socket FM2-Trinity-A10-5800B or the none tested FirePro A320 cpu upgrades that the A10-5800B is 99% compatible and a tested upgrade that CPU Upgrade lists as compatible from your A10-5700 cpu, that will give you 10% relative performance increase.

The A10-6800K cpu is not listed as a compatible upgrade from your A10-5700 cpu, so its don’t use it with the Acer bios as it will not work with your mobos bios. See here at CPU Upgrade for all the compatible cpu's that you can upgrade from your Socket FM2-Trinity-A10-5700 cpu and the tested performance chart relative performance improvement in %. Don’t uograde to anything that is not listed as compatible to your A10-5700 cpu as there are no bios updates for the Aspire X3-100 desktop.
