Nitro 5 AN517-54 Installed a Second SSD and Computer Will Not Boot

I installed a second SSD to my Nitro 5 AN517-54. The drive is a Crucial MX500 1000GB. The computer would not boot. Even the ACER logo did not show. I used an external hard drive enclosure and did a full format and tried again. Still no booting. The drive worked in a different computer and the AN517 can read it when it is in the external case.

I then installed a mechanical 1000GB HD and the computer booted normally.

Any ideas why I cannot successfully install the SSD and what can a done?

The Nitro 5 AN517s and the AN515s with this tiny and cheap nasty SATA mobo plug (like I’ve shown below from your AN517-51 Acer SG caption below) are a very problematic thing to connect to, the space is very limited and restricted and that flat SATA HDD cable is very hard to connect properly to the mobo SATA plug that its top clip also stops securing the flat cable as it wears out and doesn’t click the flat cable 100% into that plug and if you don't connect the SATA flat cable into this mobo plug 100% and fully, it will make your laptop not boot and have a black screen.

I know this and speak from personal experience as I’ve got a Nitro 5 AN515-56 that has the same SATA plug, and the same thing happened to me and I’ve tried connecting this 2.5”HDD about at least 10 times, be careful as you can damage the pins on this SATA flat cable if you attempt to connect it too many times to the mobo plug (which happened to me) and after that I just gave up on connecting my new internal 2TB Seagate Barracuda 2.5” SATA drive to my laptop and I’m using it with a SATA/USB 3.0 cable that the external case has and it works 100% every time and perfectly.

I don’t know why this SATA drive doesn’t work in an external enclosure with a USB 3.0 as it should, have you checked the external enclosure if its not damaged, have you checked the USB 3.0 ports as that could be a cause also. The Crucial MX500 1TB should work 100% with your laptop as it’s a normal 2.5” SATA-3 6GB.sec type drive and there is nothing unusual about this drive. Good luck and hope this helps you out as I know its very frustrating for such a simple thing to be so difficult. .

I don't think the cable is the problem. The mechanical HD connected and worked first try and again after I tried the SSD a final time. 5 tries with the SSD and no sucess. I agree that the cable could have been better thought out.
