Hello everybody,

I own a P03-640 and I'm experiencing something strange with the CPU fan in Custom mode.

As soon as I set the CPU fan in custom mode, like for example +70% the RPM are not stable.

The fan goes up in RPM than down up down up down....

I had a P03 620 before and didn't had the problem.

Is it normal? Now I always put it to 100% in custom to lower the CPU temp from about 15 degrees.

Thank you for your time.

yeah, i have seen this before from other users commenting on the same problem do a search and you should find your answer somewhere here in this forum. and yeah, when gaming you should run it in gaming mode that is what it is for heh.

Many thanks for your answer. I made a search before posting but didn't find...I will search again with different key words. It might sound stupid but I'm always kind of scared having the fans running at full speed even that they have been built for it. Again, thanks for your answer.

well i keep mine in gaming mode unless I'm in bed then it is left in auto, and it's been over 6 months with no problems and i even added more fans to keep it cool and a new cooler and more memory.

Good to know :) . I searched in forum for more than an hour and didn't find something ahah, might be lucky one of those days. I will definetly put the CPU in gaming while playing returnal. The game is really making the cpu getting hot with max spikes of 97° and medium temp of the CPU between 80-87° . With CPU gaming mode; medium temp arround 70°.

well, the only other thing u can do is lower the GFX settings and any other settings in the game that may help to keep it cool until you decide to upgrade the cooler i think for the 3000 series people are putting the Noctua NH-U9S. and i know i saw a few posts about that but you are right i even looked nothing came up i don't know how to find them, but they had no answers either nobody knows about certain bugs not many fixes out there for the strange unexplainable things Haha. i put in the Noctua NH-U12A but i think that's too large for your case.

Thanks for taking the time to make a search, appreciate it!

Yeah, I think it is really game related, as for example Shadow of the Tomb Raider runs all settings on ultra + full RT with CPU max temp 81° and average 72°. (And looks better than returnal) / (I'm gaming on 1080p, so the load shouldn't be so high)

GPU is always on good temp even in returnal (Max 57° and average 45°).

Yes, Noctua NH-U12A might be to big for my case. I will take a look at the Noctua NH-U9S.

    Thanks for being so helpful!

anytime and yw that's what we do here is try and help each other the best we can, well i have the 5000 series and the stock cooler is definitely better that what comes in the 3000 series. and the 3000 series has one less front fan and I'm pretty sure you guys cannot mount fans up top. i put 2 up there for more exhaust and it helps. so your only choice is to upgrade the cooler to a Noctua they have the best ratings and i love mine. i have the Shadow of the Tomb Raider game and with my stock cooler it ran at 63C on max settings at 1080p now it runs at 44C my GPU never goes over 53C on any game at max settings. and that Tomb Raider game is frustrating to say the least I'm stuck near the end i cannot make the one jump so i gave up I'm stuck where there is no way down and the jump is impossible i have tried probably 50-60 times i made it once then fell going round the corner ha-ha so i gave up its the jump where the helicopter goes in front of you and you walk out on that beam then jump and grapple i don't even know how i did it once it was pure luck.

The fan tables for normal and gaming modes use a different value for speeding the fan up than for slowing it down. That's to keep it from cycling back and forth between speeds. I wonder if the custom setting removes that differential?

Well it is a good question that I can't answer to be honest, as the custom mode is creating an inconsistency in my CPU fan RPM

That is what I was decribing. If it sets the fan to, for instance, 2400 RPM at 60C and to 3200 RPM at 70C with no differential the fan would cycle between 2400 and 3200 as the CPU temperature moves from 70C and 69C, giving a nearly constant fluxuation.

I have to admit that I'm not a hugh PC tech expert, sorry if I don't always get it 😋.

I still continued to search a reason why my CPU fan goes up and down (RPM) continuously in custom mode, even without being under heavy load. But didn't find any inputs about it.

In auto mode the CPU RPM are constant, as in gaming. It's just doing it in custom.

I wrote down the different RPM variation in 1 minute with CPU temp 40°

    Custom + 60%

    4623-3708-1530-1339-3688-4500-2647-1041-1997-4354-4192-1967……..

    Custom + 70%

I was looking for the Noctua Chugzilla recommended me but, as my rig is still under warranty for over 1 year, I will wait for it.

Thank for your time, appreciate it!🤓

yeah thats is crazy on my 5000 when i select custom they either speed right up or slow down depending if im in gaming mode or auto and i went 60-70-80-90-100 they work as advertised, looks like we all have issues with predator sense because mine on auto never changes speed when i game, thats why i leave it on gaming mode for others this feature works, so who knows whats going on. i only used custom one time to figure out what fan was making a clicking noise it helped me detect what one it was, but other than that i dont see the point of it lol. and i cant believe how fast your fans are going my fastest is the gpu at 2800 all the rest are 2550 and the noctua is 2000.
