HELP ME!! PREDATOR HELIOS 300 PH315-53 PLUGGED IN BUT BATTERY NOT CHARGING NOR DETECTING CHARGER

Here's the situation:

  1. The laptop was working just fine except for the heating issue.
  2. I opened it up to clean the fans from dust because it was already clogging the exhaust. I used a soft paintbrush and just blow the dust off.
  3. I put it all back and I am sure that nothing was left or missing even a single screw.
  4. It charged for a while and then I was not aware it stopped charging until the screen started dimming a little, indicating that it went to battery saving.
  5. Then I noticed it was not charging anymore. So I checked the charger, plug it in tightly, check the outlet, and used a tester if it has a voltage (which it does), but the laptop won't detect it anymore. I tried using the charger on my friend's laptop (the same model as mine) and the charger is working fine.
  6. It doesn't have any reset button for the battery (like some threads say).
  7. Now I am planning to borrow my friend's laptop and try to swap the battery if it will open, or if my battery will charge on his laptop, and then check if there are any changes in the drivers (because I just recently updated the windows 11 to 22h2 version).

I still have so many factors to check but first I want to get some opinions and expertise from the Acer guys. Because right now, I am a bit worried about what the local Acer technician told me. He said that it could be the main board and has to be replaced (which cost half the price of a new laptop). If the laptop turned on with my friend's battery, then I think replacing the whole board is not necessary. There should be a chip or anything on the boards that need to be replaced. For example, a single capacitor, or could be a power transistor or any other SMD parts.

Please, I need some expert advice. Thank you so much.

Sounds like a good plan to me. Report back with results and we'll go from there.

If you have done troubleshooting through the OS on the power issues, refreshed the battery drivers in Device Manager and/or created a new power plan and your laptop still doesn't charge then its a charging circuitry issue that doesn't need a replacement of a mobo.

The only reason why you would have to worry and why an Acer tech said this to you "local Acer technician told me. He said that it could be the main board and has to be replaced" is because in rare instances internal mosats to either the gpu or cpu or ram burned out and has allowed passage of high voltage current into these components' but then your laptop would not work at all and your laptop would be dead and unbootable. But seeing that your laptop works, its an easy fix for an experienced tech as it could be circuitries like a filters or a capacitor that need diagnosing with a thermal gun and a voltage injector or with alcohol as these components heat up, don't attempt this yourself as you need experience to do this.

Warning: If you don't have expertise don't touch anything inside your laptop and don't do the above, as its 100% quicker and cheaper for an experienced tech to fix this for you 😁
