I have an Acer Aspire 5349, and i'm planning a cpu upgrade from Intel Celeron B830 to Intel Core i7-2960XM because it uses the same socket. Will this cpu work with my laptop?
Probably not advisable. The i7XM draws nearly 60% more power and has 2 more cores than your duo-core 35watt mainboard was designed to handle. Even if it didn't fry the chipset, I doubt you'd see much of a performance boost. Rule of thumb --- replacing a celeron with an i3M or even some i5Ms of the same generation, cores & power is probably OK.. Jumping to an 55watt i7M or XM probably not OK. Sorry.
