My daughter has an Acer Aspire purchased over 10 years ago. Recently when deleting old programs/data the wlan driver was lost. (I was deleting, not her) When I tried to download at Acer support neither the s/n or snid was recognized. I told me both were invalid. Does Acer drop old numbers? I cannot get support to even ask if I can purchase the driver because every attempt comes up invalid.

We can get on using a cat5 cable, but the wireless light never comes on anymore.

Please help.

Thanks

What is the exact laptop model number, as allot of 10 year old Acer products are still on the list of Drivers & Manuals product support, the best way to get onto a laptop/desktop or any Acer products product support is through its model number like and for instance, if its an old Aspire 5750 (that is more than 10 years old and I also have and also have an Aspire V3-571G ) is to type in 5750 only, as Acer has all its drivers/Documents/bios-firmware/applications) available for this laptop.

Forget about looking at your products s/n or snid numbers type in its model number only not its model description like Aspire, Nitro, Swift, Spin etc . Usually and lately Acer have deleted certain and most of their old product support and only might have a few essential drivers for these old PCs. The other option that you have is to search the web for your specific model PC and get its drivers from there.

The best way to get a Wi-Fi/BT driver especially in an old Aspire laptop, as they have a simple to open back door, is to open that door and look at the exact Wi-Fi/BT cards model number and name, which in most cases it should be usually a Qualcomm Atheros, Broadcom etc and search for that driver on the web as its readily available. if your Aspire has a Qualcomm Atheros Wi-Fi/BT card this is the best driver site here for all Wi-Fi and BT drivers for every OSs from XP to Win-10. Its a simple process to do, so try all that.

I seriously did not expect such a quick response. The laptop is an Acer Aspire 5253-BZ660.

I have seen the drivers offered elsewhere and for a cost but do not want to start spreading my credit card around. My last resort would be to buy a wireless usb lan adaptor at a dealer I am familiar with and leave it at that

You still don't know whether it's broadcom or atheros. Go to device manager, if there is an item in network adapters, then double click it and look under details and under hardware ID. If the vendor id is VEN_168C, then you have Atheros (so install the atheros wifi driver). If it is VEN_14E4, then install the broadcom driver. If there is no such item in network adapters, then open up every category in device manager to see if you have a flagged item.

Also wireless status light means NOTHING if you are using windows 7 drivers on a 10 year old laptop running windows 10. You may still have wifi on your laptop yet no status light because of the age of the wifi driver.

Companies charging for "drivers" are all scams.

falzo what I’ve given you is the best way to find and update the Wi-Fi/BT drivers for your old laptop and get the last drivers for FREE and the link that I gave you for the Qualcomm Atheros cards is the best driver site as they have newer drivers than whatever Acer listed for your Aspire 5253-BZ660 but, its important to get the model number of your Wi-Fi/BT card which is very easy on these old laptops.

Just as an example, I did this to a similar Aspire 5750-2415 that only had a 2.4G Wi-Fi with no BT card, and I upgraded the card to a new 2.4/5G and v4.0 BT card and it worked 100% and I got the new drivers from that site that I gave you the link for years ago.
