the most recent bios I find for my notebook is v1.09 from 2012. Microsoft support says Ineed 2016 or newer to upgrade to win10. Is there a way to get there? THANKS

Your AO 756 can't run Win-11 it will run Win-10 better with a UEFI bios that this model came with. as your AO 756 has a legacy bios and can only run Win-10 in legacy mode format MBR with bios version 1.09 and the latter models have the UEFI bios that can be formatted to GUID (GPT) boot format that their last bios version is 2.21.

You can reprogram the bios chip, but you need the mod guide to do this (its either reprogrammed with a Hex editor and the proper programming data or completely reprogrammed with a CH341A USB Programmer that needs an experienced programmer to do) so that it can accept the UEFI bios version 2.21 upgrade,

Btw I speak from experience as I reprogrammed an Aspire V3-571G bios chip years ago, that also was a model that came with both the legacy and UEFI bios and there was a bios mod for this laptop. If there are no bios mods on the web then the only way you can do this to your AO 756 is to change the bios chip from its legacy to a UEFI bios or get an experienced programmer to do the mod to UEFI bios as they are the same chips, its cheaper to just buy a new UEFI bios chip and get a tech to swap the chips then you can install Win-10 in GUID (GPT) format and of course you need to increase the ram to its max 8GB with 2 x DDR3-1600 • CL=11 • NON-ECC • SODIMM • 204-pin • 1.35V • 2Rx8 • PC3-12800 and also use a 2.5" SSD boot drive. Good luck and hope this helps you out.
