I updated my windows to windows 10 yesterday. My laptop worked just fine until I shut it down and restarted it. It now says it's "preparing automatic repair " and I can't get it off the screen. How do I get rid of this?

Press the power button and turn the laptop off and then do this, or look at this article here:

    • Insert the Windows bootable installation USB into your laptop
    • Boot your laptop from the installation disk.
    • Select your language preferences and click on Next button to continue.
    • Click on Repair your computer.
    • Click on Troubleshoot.
    • Advanced options.
    • Startup Settings
    • Click on Restart. After restart, the computer will show another screen that has different startup options.
    • On your keyboard, press the 4 or the F4 key to boot into minimal Safe Mode. (If you need to do some online research after booting into the safe mode, press 5 or F5 to boot into "Safe Mode with Networking.")
    • Now fix issues in Safe Mode. - Uninstall suspicious software or drivers. - Update the hardware driver using a CD/DVD/USB that contains the driver. - Run antivirus software to scan for and remove virus.

you need other laptop or desktop to do this procedure, since your laptop cannot boot the operating system.

    1. insert a usb flash drive to your laptop or desktop computer. (be sure to backup the contents of your usb flash drive)
    2. download rufus https://rufus.ie/en/, then run it.
    3. left click the drop down arrow next to the word "SELECT" and left click "DOWNLOAD" to download the original Windows ISO from Microsoft. Watch the full tutorial https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=me-GmdIlbgc&ab_channel=PortalSeven

    go back to your laptop

    1. turn off your laptop, insert your usb flash drive. then enter to BIOS using shortcut key/s (Esc or F2 - refer to manual)
    2. enable the F12 key or configure the boot priority to boot first your usb flash drive and save all settings.
    3. as the computer restarts, press F12 or wait till the usb flash drive is detected.
    4. install a fresh operating system.
    5. download the latest official drivers from Acer. https://www.acer.com/us-en/support/drivers-and-manuals
    6. download the serial number detection utility/tool to obtain the device serial number or SNID
    7. download all the drivers, extract each, then install.
    8. hopefully, your problem will be solved.
    9. driver problems happens when you restore your operating system using the factory recovery image.
    10. after all the drivers installed and working properly. make an image of the whole drive using macrium reflect, aomei, easeus, minitool and many others. Watch the tutorial https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x9BGn4MivJw&ab_channel=BracerJack
    11. the purpose of making your own backup image of the whole drive is to shorten the restoration process in case of problems or malware attacks.
