Nitro 5 2.5” SSD Troubles the laptop doesn’t fire up or function

Hello all, looking for some help with my SSD.

I’ve been trying to connect my 2.5” SSD inside the device, but with it plugged in, the device keyboard will light up and the screen become backlit. Other than that, the laptop doesn’t fire up or function.

With the SSD disconnected, the laptop works perfectly well. I have tried the cable which was used in the previous laptop with the same results, so I’m a little stumped. I took the SSD to see if it was causing issues, and thankfully it is working fine.

My only guess is that it could be the cables that have stopped working, but it seems like a very strange coincidence to have both of them non-functional at the same time (when one of the cables worked in my previous nitro 5)

Any help would be most warmly received, thanks in advance.

These new Nitro 5s unfortunately have these cheap SATA motherboard plugs, and the supplied flat SATA cable does not connect properly to this plug and the plug is prone to damage. You must have connected the SATA cable wrongly, try again as and if you don't connect the SATA 2.5" cable correctly and precisely you get the symptoms that you get, and the laptop does not boot, and you get a blank screen.

I've had this problem too and just gave up with that cheap useless SATA plug, as I don't need a 2.5" drive anyway, I'm using my 2.5" drive as an external backup drive, as all new Nitro 5s like mine the AN515-56 has 2x M.2 PCIe 3 x4 slots and I've got 1x 1TB boot drive and 1x 2TB secondary and these M.2 drives are more storage than I need and are allot quicker and better than any SATA 2.5" SSDs.

The caption below is my SATA plug as its useless and that is why you can't connect your 2.5" SATA drive to this plug as the side clips get damaged and the flat SATA cable can't be secured into this plug., hence and why you get a bank screen and no boot.

Thanks for your response. Am I right in thinking from this that the plug should clip down onto the SATA cable, instead of just pushing down over it?

Yes, the top part of the plug has little plastic side clips that should secure to the bottom and that is what secures the flat SATA cable and makes the cable connect to the motherboard and if its not then you get the blank screen

I see. I’ve taken your previous advice and ordered an NVMe SSD to add into the appropriate slot within the device. Should be much quicker and much more reliable to connect!

Hi! Make sure that the SSD is compatible with your laptop. Some laptops may have specific requirements for the type of SSD that can be used, such as a specific form factor or interface.

I’m pretty sure it does, I’ve seen other people fit them - but just to check I’ve attached the description below.

    Crucial P3 Plus 1TB M.2 PCIe Gen4 NVMe
