Fan speed going up and down significantly Acer(Nitro N50-640)

Hello,

just bought and received a new Nitro N50-640 desktop PC.

Problem: After the PC runs for a couple minutes, the CPU fan starts pulsing - going up to somewhat high RPM, then down to basically idle again. This cycle repeats about every 3 seconds, which creates a very annoying sound. This does not seem to be related to dangerously high temperatures, it happens even at very low temperatures like 55°C.

The problem occurs no matter if the BIOS setting "SMART Fan" is enabled or disabled. There are no additional BIOS settings besides this one available.

Interestingly, when manually setting the fan speed to a specific percentage via the included NitroSense software, the problem persists - even when setting the fan speed to 100%, the ACTUAL fan speed still goes up and down significantly! The pulsing only stops when setting the fan control to "Max"; but that is extremely loud and obviously not a proper solution. Reinstalling NitroSense does not change anything.

I have found no other software (SpeedFan, Speed Control, ArgusMonitor etc.) that is able to even detect, let alone control the CPU fan.

After googling around, I have found other descriptions of this problem, but no solutions. Has anyone encountered the same issue and maybe has found a way around it? I would prefer to avoid complicated/costly things like completely replacing e.g. the motherboard to get around ACER-specific restrictions on fan control.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Does it also pulse the same way in the BIOS menu after a few minutes?

Good point - it does not seem to happen when purely in the BIOS. So maybe I should just try to get rid of NitroSense or other Acer software, and see if that stops it, since it seems to be restricted when running Windows.

Yes, PredatorSense can access the BIOS essentially over-riding user settings. The temperature is probably hovering near a fan speed set point which causes it cycle up and down around the set point. Probably best to temporarily disable it or prevent it from loading at startup, rather than uninstall, to see what happens.
