How do I stop my Acer Aspire 3 from overheating and thermal throttling?

So I've owned an Acer Aspire 3 for Over 2 years, and over a year ago I started noticing massive drops in performance. It's difficult to even browse the web with how slow this thing has become

At idle my cpu temps avg about 80-90 degrees

It's difficult to do anything on this laptop anymore when it decides to throttle.

Is this a known issue?? or did I just get unlucky and get a faulty one with bad thermal paste?

also the fans are way to quiet for something running at 90 degrees, but no matter how hard I search I cannot find any fan control software that could help with this issue.

if there are any tips please lmk. Thanks

What is the exact model number of your Aspire 3 laptop e.g. A31x-xx is it a G as the G models have a secondary GPU. As the first thing that you should do (after 2 years) is to open the back cover and clean all the vents, and take the thermal module off and clean the old paste off either off the cpu and/or if its got a secondary gpu then clean the gpu also and completely clean the old paste off and repaste the cpu and the gpu with a high end paste like the Thermal Grizzly Kryonaut Extreme paste, as you will find that the old thermal paste has gotten brittle/dry and loses its thermal shielding and effectiveness, hence and why your cpu or gpu overheats, also check the fan or fans if they are performing 100% as their bearings could be worn or the fan is actually dirty and not performing to its max performance. All this has to be checked if your laptop is overheating before anything else is done.

Also upgrade the ram to your laptops max capacity and better performing memory (do the Crucial System Scan) and to dual channel if your Aspire 3 has 2x slots for ram and make sure that you have all windows up to date and all drivers up to date and use an ssd drive as your boot drive as all this will reduce your cpu’s bottlenecking and overheating problems and will increase this laptop performance to work allot more efficiently with its OS and keep your laptop running cooler and faster, also buy a tablet cooler (as they are not expensive and a good investment) that will assist in dispersing hot air out of the bottom of your laptop more efficiently.

Thanks for the tips! I do not own a G model so I only have the 1 Radeon integrated graphics card. I will consider cleaning all the insides. I have both ram slots fillled with 4gb ram or whatever it came with, I was always considering a ram upgrade I just wasn't sure what was the best to buy. I have my ssd as my boot drive and have all the latest drivers.

Another weird thing I have discovered is that is if I flip the laptop where the vents are facing out instead of on my desk, the temp will go down, but then shoot back up to 90 again and it keeps doing that repeatedly. Weird

    Anyways, thanks for the help!

@Nock try to open Quick Access app and check if you have the usage mode. If so, change it to high performance.

Thank you and have a nice day!
