Best Nvidia Control Panel / Windows 11 Settings for Gaming - Acer Predator Orion 5000 PO5-640-UB11

Hi all,

I am very new to pc gaming and the myriad of Nvidia/Windows settings that you are able to tweak and adjust is just plain overwhelming (not to mention all the in-game settings). Would anyone have a nicely summarized list of settings for the Nvidia Control Panel and Windows 11 that I could easily change/modify to enhance gaming performance (i.e. improve FPS)? I am not very keen on downloading a lot of new software, only if absolutely necessary.

As a curiosity, I would also be interested in any guides for optimizing appearance/resolution, as I may end up diving into non-competitive single player games where FPS does not matter so much.

FYI - I did read the following thread https://community.acer.com/en/discussion/612495/windows-10-11-optimization-guide-for-gaming#latest. Can anyone on here vouch for the steps outlined in this guide? I just don't want to be one of those guys that ends up blindly following all the steps of an optimization guide only to end up in a worse state than I was in originally, or end up having something not work as intended and not knowing why. I don't intend to use my pc for much except purely for gaming, along with the occasional web browsing.

As always, thanks for all your help!

The NVidia Control Panel is a software to modify your NVidia RTX-3070 GPU with many settings and can be personalized for the software's and games that you have (as detailed in those links). As far as your gaming is concerned, NVidia has the GeForce Experience software that has the ultimate settings for many games if not all the major games that you may play and this software detects all the compatible games that NVidia has settings for, if a game is not there then you should search the web for that game's best settings is.

Its virtually impossible to give you a precise setting in NVidia Control Panel for your RTX-3070 GPU as there is NOT just one setting that is best. You can set the "Preferred graphics processor to High performance NVIDIA graphics" you can then go to "Program Settings" and specifically specify settings for that game or whatever software as you wish, as there are many settings and its imossible to advise you of what is best for you.

The most important is to make sure that all Win-11 updates are up to date, all Intel drivers are up to date and the RTX-3070 GPU is updated to its latest driver (that btw, GeForce Experience software will do and notify you of) as that is the most important, as and if you do all that then your desktops performance and gaming will perform at their peak with your PO5-640 desktop, which is an excellent high end gamin/editing platform, also make sure that you run at least 32GB RAM if you intend playing high end game and do video editing with this desktops suggested RAM specs below imo you should use the 32GB total at 4x 8GB or 64GB total at 4x 16GB setups suggested by Acer, as that is the best RAM population of your desktops memory slots as its suggested by Acer below.

You can also do a specific RAM & SSD Upgrade scan with the Crucial System Scan as that will also give you a guide but Crucial only suggests 2x memory modules for this desktop's max memory e.g. 2x memory kits as you will see in your PO5-640s scan and not what Acer suggest below for your PO5-640. Good luck and hope this helps you out in what is involved in setting up a formidable gamin/editing platform.

Acer suggested PO5-640s RAM specs and setup:

Also make sure that you upgrade to a high-end M.2 PCIe 4 x4 drive like the Kingston Fury Renegade drive as that is the quickest and best tested M.2 PCIe 4 x4 drive around imo or you can also use the new and excellent Samsung 990 PRO PCIe 4.0 NVMe M.2 SSD or the WD Black NS-850 M.2 drives as all the above will extract the best performance from your PO5-640 desktop.

i know i tried all kinds of settings and what helped the most was putting in 64 gigs from crucial and leaving everything else as is....i was using the omen gaming hub....i did all the settings from that link...what i do when gaming is a fresh restart then close any open programs down by the clock not needed to get the best performance and, in the windows, performance tab under visual effects i have it set for custom with only 3 things checked i prefer to have on otherwise set it for best performance and have at it

Yes, start with everything stock then don't tweak until you can identify something that slows things down. Then tweak only settings to change that one thing, as in the extra memory mentioned above. Likely you won't need to do anything to get a decent experience...
