FAQ & Answers
The Samsung 980 Pro 500GB M.2 SSD is a PCIe 4 x4 M.2 SSD and it will be a waste of money as your laptop will never ever utilize its speeds, your A715-71G laptop can only utilize the max speeds of a PCIe 3 x4 type M.2 drives, and this laptop has 2x PCIe 3 x4 M.2 slots SSDs and an additional slot for a 1x 2.5" SATA-3 6GB/s drive where you can upgrade to either an SSD or a mechanical type drive.
If you want a Samsung M.2 drive, then their best and most compatible Samsung M.2 SSD drive for your laptop is their 512GB Samsung 970 Pro NVMe M.2 drive which is their top of the range PCIe 3 x4 or you can also use the excellent WD NS750 Black M.2 drive.
The below drives are the Acer OEM fritted PCIe 3 x4 M.2 SSDs that Acer uses:
The below drives are the 2.5: OEM SATA-3 6GB/s mechanical drives that Acer fits as OEM: You can also upgrade to 2.5" SSDs like the excellent and very reliable drives, that btw, I’ve used these drives for many years and they are excellent like the Samsung 870 EVO SATA III 2.5-inch SSD or the 860 EVO SATA III 2.5 inch SSD or the 860 PRO SATA III 2.5 inch SSD drive that all can have a max of 4TB capacity or if you want up to 8TB capacity, then you can use their 870 QVO SATA III 2.5 inch SSD.
