I have just started setting up my new Acer Win 11 and am eager to get it working. A new Acer after 7 years should be very fast and I'm excited to get using it. I have connected to the wireless router and entered my Microsoft account details. Now I have to select either:

- restore from Acer or

- set up as new device.

I don't want all the ***** from the old PC copied to this new one so which option should I select?

I will want to copy or sync the following:

Google Chrome - I need help from you to ensure all settings, bookmarks and tabs are the same on both PCs

The rest I will try to sort myself.

Photos, Music, Videos and Documents - I will select and copy the latest and important stuff across using a USB stick. I don't need them to sync with the old Laptop.

Thunderbird (emails) and Firefox - I will copy the profiles so the apps will be the same on both PCs. Mozilla will help with this if I get stuck.

MS Edge - I rarely use this so sync on both PCs will probably sort that, If not, I will call on Microsoft support.

You should sign in to your existing account and post these questions to the Microsoft support community and also Google Chrome browser forums.

For most regular browsers like FireFox you simply export an bookmark.html file. Then import the bookmark.html file to FireFox on the new machine. Thunderbird is a little more complicated but similar. Basically you export the old local folders and import them to the new Thunderbird installation. The folders on the email server should be identical since they have nothing to do with the local folders on the hard drives.
