Hi all,

I have been having fan noise issue since last month and probably it's related to my prolonged usage of my laptop, causing the fan to wear over years.

The laptop was purchased since 2019 so it's warranty has definitely expired long ago.

The speed and everything is still amazingly fast and good so I want to replace the fan instead of replacing the laptop.

Since I no longer have support options, where do everyone get their parts in this case? Or alternatively, any advice?

Thank you and have a wonderful day!

Best regards,

Jason

    Hi guys,

Thank you for your answers, turns our Acer is genius in laptop design, the fan is WASHABLE.

It can be disassembled and the brushless fans can be taken off the motor, just DO NOT do it with a knife. I washed the fan blades under super slow water tap without wetting the middle, drying it with a hairdryer, pop everything back in, guess what it worked! This is crazy good!

I can enjoy noiseless laptop programming again. This is like learning something completely beyond my imagination. I mean how come that thingy can be taken off and put back in.... I'm still amazed.

    Laptop's working again, nice!

    Best regards,

    Jason

Congratulations. Unfortunately some fan models have blade rotors that don't easily come off the shaft or are glued on. Resulting in broken rotors. Glad your's came off OK. Thanks for reporting back. 🙂

Just a quick follow up, it's been years later and the laptop left hinge broke yet the fan fix is still good to go flawless, I eventually upgraded to a third laptop for mobility and converted the old one to a desktop computer.

For the record this second computer lasted 8 whole years and it's still going strong, to be fair it's much much longer than the expected average, just a little bit longer than my first laptop which is something around 7.8 years. All of them still works as of time of writing - repurposed for less mission-critical purposes.

I'm still considering to fix the hinge so it can be a laptop again. Fortunately it didn't break the frame or the screen, it just stopped turning and it's a clear sign one shouldn't put force for it to close. I later took out the broken hinge and let it sit on the desk with the screen still connected and working fully functional. The computer itself is still performing very well and it still opens and closes without the metal hinge. It'll be a pending replacement to be done in the future.

For context, average laptops were usually expected to last around 5 years, 8 years is almost halfway to double, you definitely have to give Acer credit on this.

Thanks for another report. Hinges are the most stressed part of any laptop. So I also tend to use even a brand new laptop as a desktop if possible and rarely open/close the lid except when having to move it around from place to place during the day.
