I have an Aspire 5 laptop. The plastic on the display lid that the hinge attaches to broke. Now I can't open and close the laptop. It is 2 years old and out of warranty.

The best fix is probably using epoxy glue to glue the hinge to the case lid. This is really cheap stuff. Won't buy another one. The other side will probably break too. Don't think it is worth buying a new part. Would have to probably buy a new lid.

First, what is the exact Nitro 5 model number that you have, its on the back of your laptop and should be something like AN515-xx. Also, a broken hinge problem happens all the time to allot of laptops models if not every laptop model, its part of the course as all laptops hinge securing points are onto a plastic base and hinges are made of steal and are spring loaded and especially if you open and close the lid allot this can happen very easily or the plastic at the hinge point can break. This happens to laptops from all manufacturers, not only Acer!

Anyway, the best way to fix this is to replace your Nitro 5s LCD COVER ASSY with a new part (that is if you would have told us what exact Nitro 5 model you have, we could have told you the exact part number) this is an easy fix "don't glue it with epoxy glue as it won't last and will break again" the only glue that lasts is "Hot Glue" but the glue has to be applied and be heated to 500c with a Butane Mini Torch or a soldering station gun and not just with a hot glue gun as the glue will not melt enough for a good application, also this is a very messy fix, and I would not recommend it only as a temporary fix! The best FIX is with the new top cover replacement and its not very expensive also if you are computer savvy and can do it yourself👍😁good luck and hope this helps you out.

It is an Aspire 5, A515-55-576H. I don't think it is a Nitro. Is the display glued to the cover? One of the screws fell out of the hinge. At first it didn't look like a screw but I think the small metal piece on it was the part it was screwed into. Thanks.

Yes, if its an A515-55-576H then its an Aspire and not a Nitro 5 (the Nitro is a gaming laptop) but you can get the top covers from eBay and Amazon for this laptop, and they are pretty cheap. Have a look at this one "New Acer Aspire A515-54 A515-54G A515-55 A515-55G N18Q13 LCD Back Cover Top Case" as they range in price between US $34.12 to US $46.31

Be very careful when you take the actual LCD screen out as the LCD panel is fixed to the top cover and can break as its secured with double-sided tape and you need like 150c heat source to unglue it properly and easily (use a hair drier on low if you don't have a soldering heat gun).

That hinge screw part that fell out is the actual screw in bracket that the screw screws into and its part of the top cover and that is what always brakes from their plastic base that they are pressed into, that is the weakest point of the hinges both at the top case and bottom case. .

OK, thanks. Several small pieces of the black plastic frame fell out. I see the frame is part of the cover. Looks like new double sided tape is on the new cover.
