I accidentally spilled water on my Acer nitro five last month because my brother was being annoying and I accidentally knocked over the cup of water on my computer. I have tried it for a whole month. I even charged it fully every single day and night when I turn on the computer. the side buttons listed as the computer is on and the computer is charging which is blue and orange. The colors are on my computer to turn on and the keyboard still glows up but my screen stress pitch black if anyone here has recommendations of what I should do, please tell me immediately. Sincerely, David.

  • The best option is to send the laptop to a repair center. It is possible that water has come in contact with the motherboard, causing a short.

I’m going to give a guide of how and what could be wrong and why your laptop doesn’t boot after a water spill. that is if you are computer savvy and have experience ONLY, otherwise take it to an experienced technician! First and most important, what model Nitro 5 do you have, and where did the water spill into your Nitro 5 laptop? Is it through the keyboard, which the water could have spread to many and different components that are underneath the keyboard like these many components below:

    1. ·      Ram and ram slots
    2. ·      CPU & GPU and either gpu memory or cpu circuitries
    3. ·      HDD (B) & M.2 above FFCs
    4. ·      RTC battery cable (C)
    5. ·      Keyboard backlight FFC (D) which it didn’t
    6. ·      Touchpad FFC (E)
    7. ·      Keyboard FPC (F)
    8. ·      Hall Sensor Board FFC (G)
    9. ·      USB board FFC (H)
    10. ·      USB cable (I)
    11. ·      eDP mobo plug that could have shorted

Below is a Nitro 5 AN515-55 motherboard (as an example) and the components underneath the keyboard that could have got affected by water.

As by what you have said and if the laptop “colours are on my computer to turn on and the keyboard still glows up” means that the laptop does turn on but, can you hear the fans spinning inside? As if that is the case, and if you are very very lucky, it could be a screen cable issue that shorted at the mobo and needs replacing and its affected the eDP screen pug and shorted the data/power to the screen (if you are very very lucky?)

But, it depends on how much water spiled inside your laptop? As water dries without leaving any residues/sediments like sugar or other chemicals that are in soda drinks etc etc but the only thing that you should have done is that you should have immediately turn the laptop off and removed the back cover and disconnect the main battery the rtc/bios battery and taken the ram out. Don't keep trying to turn the laptop on, as that will do nothing.

The first thing that you should do is do a “Hard Reset” by opening the back cover and taking out the following, main battery, rtc/bios battery, ram modules, m.2 ssd and hdd from its SATA plug (if you have a SATA drive?), then check the mobo and where all these components connect to, if they are clean and no circuitries are burned/swollen or damaged. If no components are damaged, then leave the batteries disconnected for about 15 min and reconnect the batteries and see if your laptop boots up.

If it doesn't, then the water spill shorted or burned components and it doesn’t look good, as the next step is to remove the motherboard and thoroughly clean or you might also need to "refloat major components like the cpu/gpu/super IO or bios chip) but to clean the mobo, the best cleaning liquid is to use a petroleum liquid like lighter fluid (as lighter fluid has oils in it and its also a great cleaning agent and also doesn't damage circuitries) as you might be lucky that just a mobo clean will revive your laptop (but I can't guarantee) but if not, then you could also be lucky that only a few components can be replaced but if the water spill caused a cpu or a gpu or a ram memory damage then these components can't be fixed and its much cheaper and easier to fix by replacing the whole mobo completely, which is not cheap especially on a Nitro 5 laptop if you can get the motherboard? Good luck and hope this helps you out

I am really sorry for the inconvenience..  Let us do the basic steps first..

Doing the power drain and bios defaults will really help. Kindly follow the steps given below:

Turn off the laptop. Disconnect or unplug the charger cable, devices or any other cables connected to your laptop. Close your laptop. Turn it upside down. On the bottom of the laptop, you can find a pin hole. It is a tiny hole. You can a find a battery symbol indicator next to the hole. It is like a + and – sign symbol as though somebody is trying to shift the battery out. Insert the pin on to the hole for 30 seconds. Remove the pin. Flip the laptop. Connect the charger cable, turn on the computer. Only on laptops where the battery is inbuilt you can find the battery reset hole on the back of laptop.

If you don’t find a pin hole on the back of laptop then you might be using removable battery. There is no need to unscrew anything to remove the battery. Turn off the laptop. Disconnect or unplug the charger cable, devices and any other cables connected to your laptop. Close your laptop. Turn it upside down. On the bottom of the laptop, please look at the top or bottom depending on the way you look at it. You can find a long door. It is a battery removable door. Just below that you can find a latch. If you move the latch you can remove the battery door. Once the battery is removed, flip the laptop. Open the top cover, press and hold the power button for 1 minute. Connect the battery back on the back of computer. Connect the charger cable back and then turn on the computer.

If you don’t see a reset pin hole on the back of laptop or if you are not able to remove the battery (if it is inbuilt) then please unplug all the cables and devices out of laptop.  Hold the power button for 1 minute. After releasing the button you should wait a while before plugging in power. Just because the button has been pressed doesn’t bleed off all the residual electricity on the motherboard. Wait 15-30 minutes before plugging in power. Then once power is connected wait for a full battery indication before turning the system on. That allows the battery to fully reset it’s internal statistics.

Connect all the cables back and restart the computer.

While turning on the computer, tap f2. It will go to bios. Press f9 once. It will show load bios defaults with a yes or no popup. Press enter. Popup screen will disappear. Press f10 once. It will show save changes popup with yes or no. Press enter. Computer will restart and it will load into windows.

It might also be the issue with battery, charger or power outlet.  Try to use the charger in a different room on a different power outlet. Try to bypass the surge protector and connect it directly to power outlet.  Try to use an alternative charger if possible.  Try to turn on the computer without the charger and check it ( as long as the battery is not drained out )

    Try windows x

    go to device manager

    expand Battery

right click on all the items below battery – uninstall

    Restart the computer

    It should work fine..
