So I just unboxed the PO5-640-ER11, and was surprised to see 4 sticks of ram when the advertising stated 32GB DDR5 SDRAM (2x 16GB).

Is this is a change from acer?

What are you complaining about, as 4x modules are better and using 4x modules can be effective considering the slight average of 5-10% fps and overall performance boost. However, note that the memory limitations and the frequency and timing need to be in sync to gain such a performance boost. A straight comparison might be difficult and in some cases, not really accurate to determine which configuration is better.

Also, and if you look at the chart below, 4x 8GB modules are part of the suggested setup for 32GB of ram DDR5 DIMMs. Below is the Acer suggested ram module setup for all ram DIMMs capacities for your PO5-640 desktop. Also look at this Crucial PO5-640 for 32GB and 64GB kits and every other type of memory ram's modules and for all budget types suitable for your desktop.

i called crucial they told me to always run 2 or 4 never 1 or 3.... that's how you get maximum performance out of the memory especially ddr 5.... then each stick can handle more than individual ones can by splitting the workload...so he explained to me when i asked if i have 32 @ 2x16 and want to upgrade too 64 should i just add a single 32 or 2x16 and he said 2x16 is way better for performance than 1x32 ....i cannot remember word for word what the tech agent at crucial-micron told me but that's close enough lol and he said to never use XMP it shortens the lifespan of the memory he said just add more and to max out the memory if possible we would get better performance than overclocking anyways hope that helps along with what steven said he has helped me many times over he knows what he is talking about !!@!! and i think all acer gaming pcs come with 2 or 4 sticks of memory are always 8 gig sticks it's probably cheaper that way for them to keep costs down for us consumers who knows lol

Yes, they populate to the advertised memory level with whatever sticks are available at the time of build. Usually that's the larger size in pairs, but sometimes it ends up being four sticks of smaller size. As suggested, don't try to use an odd number, because that disabled dual channel mode, which slows things down a bunch. I can see why you would have been happier with just two sticks though, you could have upgraded to 64GB without having to buy four 16GB sticks...
