    Hi,

It depends on the OS you currently have in the old HDD, if it's same as the new laptop, it may not boot because the OS in the old drive is licensed to the old laptop, I would suggest you try install it and see whether you get boot options in boot tab of BIOS, if not, transfer all important data from the old HDD to an external spare drive, format it and install in the new laptop, then transfer all data you saved in the spare HDD to it.

If you have an extra socket for it in the new 54, the old 53's drive should show up as an extra D : \ drive in the new 54. No need to wipe it. It'll still boot fine if you decide to put it back in the old 53.

Another option is to simply connect the old drive to the new 54's usb port with a SSD/HDD-to-USB adapter. Less than $10 from Amazon for either a 2.5" drive or m.2 card usb adapters. They'll also show up as an extra drive
