I'm looking to add another m.2 pcie to my Acer nitro 5(AN515-57-5700)(second slot) and was wondering what size pcie/sata I need. I'm under the assumption of gen 3 m.2 pcie/sata 2280? Is this correct?

The specs of your AN515-57 are PCI BUS PCIe 4 x4 (16xGT/s max link speed). Btw, I've got an AN515-56 (which is the same) and I'm running the boot drive at 1x WD 850 M.2 PCIe 4 x4 and the secondary M.2 drive I'm using a 1x 2TB WD NS750 PCIe 3 x4 in slot 2 (but you can fit a PCIe 4 x4 also if you want? I did this for budget reasons) as a secondary drive and it works perfectly and very speedily. Download HWiNFO64 and look at the BUS - Intel Tiger Lake - PCI Express Root Port specs, as that will tell you the specs.

Just for your information, this is the listed Acer M.2 drives for the AN515-57:

It's not clear there, but the second SSD slot supports both NVMe and SATA, the first slot only NVMe.
