SP314-54N overheats when asleep with lid closed

My daughter's Spin 3 has developed an issue. When the lid is closed, it goes to sleep fine, but now on several occasions when my daughter wakes up, her Spin3 is blazing hot and appears locked up with black screen. We've tried the power reset pinhole - no use. We have to remove all the screws and physically disconnect the battery connector. The heat pipe/CPU begin to cool instantly, and by the time we get the battery reconnected and the screws back in, the laptop is fine, powers on, and works.

We have made sure the fan path is clear of any debris. But it's not like the fans even come on during the night, at least not that she's reported.

This is obviously a fire risk.

We've no idea the cause or what to do.

Thoughts?

What exact model Spin3 do you have? If its under warranty then send it back to Acer if not, then disconnect the battery (as this is a fire hazard especially leaving this laptop overnight like it is!) try to reset its "Power and Sleep Settings" to default by right clicking the battery icon and setting everything to default. If that doesn't work then your laptop has problems and your laptop needs to be taken to a technician immediately, as you Spin 3 has circuitry problems within its primary power stages that does not turn the power off on sleep modes and the laptop needs diagnosing and faulty components need to be replaced.

    The exact model is SP314-54N

    Model Name: SP314-54N-50W3 | Part Number: NX.HQ7AA.001 |

It seems Acer only provide a 1-year warranty, and she's had this laptop for longer than that. :(

The problem comes up randomly, and in the past 6 months it's happened about 4 times. Other times the laptop seems to work fine.

Was hoping this might be a driver/BIOS issue but I've not seen any other reports.

Much more likely to be an issue with a background app or driver that's not always playing well with sleep. If it crashes just right it could be running the CPU hard even though 'asleep'... It's going to be tough to diagnose if it happens so rarely. :(
