Using external GPU when internal dedicated one fails Helios 300 for 2 yearsRTX 2060

Hi all,

so I’ve been a happy owner of Helios 300 for 2 years(more than 2 actually)w/RTX 2060 onboard and recently dropped my sweetheart on the floor while playing in bed( :) )

RTX 2060 is no longer displayed in device manager and my best guess is that the GPU chip detached from the motherboard due to impact.

Before i attempt repairs, is it advisable to connect an external GPU via thunderbolt? So far that seems like the least-hassle option and probably cheapest one as the cpu still works fine, apart from one of the RAM slots which shouldn’t be an issue as there’s 16Gb sticks out there.

If equipped with a thunderbolt port---and---if said TB port still works---and---if the RAM socket still works---might work. Might not. Lotta IFs there. 😲

Yes the other remaining ram socket works but existing 4gb stick will need to be replaced by at least 8gig one. Any way to check if TB still works?

What's the series model number? For example, PH315-54?

Turn laptop off. Turn it back on again & immediately tap F2 to enter the BIOS menu. What are the first ten characters of the serial number on the BIOS Information tab? For example, NHQ54EK018?
