Why does my laptop keep moving the cursor when I am typing, causing me all sorts of problems?

First off folks, I realise I am out-of-my-depth when it comes to computer knowledge on this site. Much of the terminology is alien to me, and I am basically either a ludite or a boomer when compared to must people here.

I think my issue might be a simple fix, but it is really ruining my otherwise great experience with this acer nitro 5.

When I type anything, including this simple post, the text will jump around randomly my tor disappear altogether. What is causing this? Is it that I have a mouse plugged in and my touchpad is still functioning?

Most of my work incorporates a lot of writing, and this is turning into a hellish experience. Am I accidently pressing a windows 11 short-cut? Please, I implore someone to help me, as I otherwise really like this machine.

If anyone can offer me a soloution, I will be extremely grateful as you have no idea how much this is affecting my everyday work.

Usually therre are no software updates for a laptops keyboard/touchpad, as what windows installs is what is your Acer driver for your keyboard/touchpad drivers should be. The only thing that you can do is to uninstall the keyboard/touchpad drivers within Device Manager and reboot your laptop, as that should refresh the drivers and fix your problem, if not then your mouse might be faulty, so disconnect the mouse and only use the touchpad, if that does not work then your keyboard/touchpad are faulty and need replacing. Do a process of elimination and narrow the problem down.

Okay Stephen I shall try unplugging the mouse to the if there is an improvement, nah as you may guess from that typo. the problem still abounds even without the mouse. And I will be useless at messing around with drivers. What a carry-on this has turned out to be. Love the machine, but the main reason I got the ***** thing was for writing. Doesn't anyone else ever get this issue? And thanks for answering Stephen, my next door neighbour is doing his phd in computer science so he should be able to help, although we are not really on talking terms, I lent him a lot of expensive stuff months ago and he has not even mentioned it.
