Hello! I'm trying to utilize the microphone input of the TRRS headphone/mic jack on a Travelmate Spin B118, but its not at all recognizing the microphone input as a device. The only device that shows up as an input is the "microphone array" (which is the internal mic). I've tried updating the Realtek(SST) driver and its still not working. The windows troubleshooters don't work

And it's not a hardware problem, since I know that the hardware itself is working perfectly fine. It's just that the mic input of the TRRS jack is not recognized as a device

    >>>TRRS headphone/mic jack>>>

There are two types of TRRS headsets as shown below. While some laptops accept both styles, the OMTP style is usually more reliable since the slnce the sleeve serves as the common ground, not the 2nd ring.

Windows asks you what type of device is being plugged in the first time it's inserted. There's a checkmark on that requestor that says something like "save this choice". If you choose the wrong type and let it remember then from then on it'll think that it's the same type. You want the headset type instead of the headphones type IIRC. One has a mic and other doesn't. If you have told Windows it doesn't have a mic the mic will not work.
