Hi!,

I want to use NVME m.2 "WD Black SN850 1 TB" on my laptop Acer Aspire E5-475g

my question:

does it work?

what is Acer Aspire E5-475g max PCIe support, can it support PCIe Gen4 x4?

Acer Aspire E5-475g maximum of NVME m.2 storage support, like how many GB, can it support 1TB?

Here is My Laptop Spec info:

Here is NVME m.2 WD Black SN850 1 TB:

also last question:

if I want to change my HDD to SSD, like how many GB this laptop Support??, 4GB??

Your E5-475G is defiantly NOT compatible with WD NS850 NVMe PCIe 4 x4 M,2 drive, don't waste your $$$'s and don't buy one! To make sure what is the most compatible M.2 drives install HWINFO64 and go into its section BUS >PCI and see the PCI Express version and Maximum Link Width the E5-475G has? As initially the E5-475G Acer SG only lists the M.2 SATAIII 6GB/s B&M end key type M.2 drives that is compatible with these laptops but, yours could be compatible with both B&M key and M key type PCIe 3 x2 M.2 drives, so check out your specs exactly.

Acer Aspire E5-475 & 475G SG listed compatible SATA III 6GB/s M.2 drives:

But I see this guy video, it works with WD Black SN750 500 GB, PCIe 4.0 x4

His Laptop same like me, spec: Inter I5 Gen 7th

That gay is talking about a WD NS750 PCIe 3 x4 (which if your E5-475G is compatible?) you can fit that to your laptops PCIe 3 x2! But the WD NS850 is a PCIe 4 x4 and your E5-475G's interface is not a PCIe 4 x4 and it will never ever utilise the PCI 4 read/write speeds, as I said above, install HWINFO64 and go into its section BUS >PCI and see the PCI Express version and Maximum Link Width the E5-475G has?

As not even my Nitro 5 AN515-56 does and your E5-475G is a much older laptop than mine. This guy's E5-475G might have the version that can have an “M end key type M.2 PCIe 3 x2 drive and he’s putting the WD-750 PCI 3 x4 M.2 drive into his laptop, which much different to the WD NS850 Black that is a PCIe 4 x4!

Then if i use Gen 3 x4 will it work, or it will be half

    Thanks for the reply

Yes, your E5-475 is compatible with the M.2 PCIe 3 x2 that is what that means (which the PCIe 3 x2 are hard to buy these days) so that is why that Guy is fitting the WD-750 BLACK PCIe 3 x4 which is NOT the WD NS-850 Black as that is a PCIe 4 x4 which your laptop has NO chance of ever working to those speeds of read or write and its a total waste of your money but, suite yourself?

That is what I'm trying to say as that gay in that youtube clip, is talking about a WD NS750 PCIe 3 x4 which is even too much of an upgrade for your E5-475G as and if it was me, I would fit the PCIe 3 x4 WD NS500 or max NS530 which is more appropriate M.2 drives (even these two M.2 drives are overdoing it) for your old laptop. You can’t put a V12 into a v4 cassis and expect the chassis to work like a V12😀

Okay Thank you so much for your information, I almost buy WD black sn850 that not gonna work on my laptop

Now i want to buy NVME M.2 Samsung 980 1TB

    Spec:

    PCIe 3.0 x4, NVMe 1.4

    Read : 3500 MB/s (1TB)

    Write : 3000 MB/s (1TB)

BTW is this work on my laptop although only half?

    Thanks

In my opinion and btw I'm using a WD NS530 M.2 (that came OEM from Acer) on my Nitro 5 AN515-56 and its perfect and works really fast, I also have upgraded the boot drive to a WD NS750 Black M.2 as the boot drive which is even faster but the Nitro 5 AN515-56 can use the full speed of the PCIe 3 x4 and this drive is really fast and the E5-475G can't use the full performance of the Samsung 980 PCIe 3 x4.

On your Aspire E5-475G a fast PCIe 3 x4 is useless as you should only fit a slower M.2 drive PCIe 3 x4 like the Western Digital NS 530 M.2 that its specs are - 2400 MB/s read and 1750 MB/s write and 315 k / 230k IOPS 4K read / write. According to WDC the TBW is 300 TB and the MTBF 1.75 million hours.

The Samsung 980 PCIe 3 x4 M.2 is also way too fast with its Sequential Read Speed Up to 3,500 MB/s and Sequential Write Speed Up to 3,000 MB/s and also Samsung SSD drives are also expensive, yes, they do have good software like the Data Migration Software for cloning and for tuning Samsung has the Magician Software. but its not worth paying for that extra as Western Digital also has the same software and in your case I wouldn't pay more for an M.2 drive.

This is my opinion only as I'm using these drives now and the WD is excellent and very speedy.
