PO3-640 Memory Upgrade Problems

Hi, the machine above came with 16Gb RAM that runs at 3200Mhz. (The RAM in the machine is Kingston HyperX Fury). I purchased 2x8Gb Kingston Fury Beast that should run at 3200Mhz but as soon as I install the machine recognises total of 32Gb but drops the frequency to 2400Mhz. Anyone offer any reason why this might be?

The stock memory is 3200 without XMP, the new memory is 3200 only with XMP and with a 2400 base frequency. You can mix regular and XMP in the system, but everything will run at the slower of the two base speeds, in this case 2400. You need either all XMP memory, with XMP enabled in the BIOS, or all non XMP memory.

I looked at the article and it doesn't cover my issue. Have checked BIOS settings and they all seem good - the memory I purchsed seems to meet the requirements for the board. Why would the new memory cause all memory banks to slow down to 2400Mhz?

    Howdy!

Try replacing the original RAM modules with the new ones. Does the new RAM run at 3200 when you use only them? If you mix RAM and use one old and one new module, what happens?

The old RAM and new RAM, do they need the same voltages?

If the new set of RAM works at advertised speed but not at "mixed mode" or all four slots populated, check BIOS if there's a way to increase RAM voltages. (Sometimes RAM needs 0.05 - 0.1v more to work properly.) Unfortunately your BIOS may be too limited to allow you to make any voltage adjustments. :(
