  • Which cooler do you have? Have a look at your Noctua manual as that shows and has a video on the appropriate way to install whatever Noctua cpu cooler you have.

The Noctua model that everyone recommends here doesn't require removing the motherboard. That's one of the big pluses for it...

So I have the PO5-640-UB11 and I ordered the Noctura nh-u9s and it looks like to have to remove the motherboard, Even though the h660 motherboard has a stock retention model I the screws that come with cooler wont allow for set up unless I'm missing something.

It's a simple job to take the PO5-640 mobo out, dissasemble all the appropriate components pre taking the mobo out and undo the mobo screws that are shown below and then follow the Noctua NH-U9S installation guide.

    Update

I ended up breaking the post on the cpu bracket so I had to remove the mb. Installed the bracket that came with the cooler and finally got it back together. Wasn't that difficult but the 12mm screws were to long.

You shouldn't have needed to remove the MB, just use the spacers and screws with the stock brackets.

The kit doesn't come with the correct screws for 1700 boards

I wonder if they just didn't have the new version in stock? They made changes to the NH-U9S when the 1700 sockets came out to support the slight size difference... You might have gotten the old kit.

I have the P03-630 and purchased the Noctua NH-U9S. I had to remove the mb to install the backplate. In addition, the screw holes on the back plate did not match up with the holes on the mb by a few mm so had to drill those out to make it fit. It was a hassle but worth it in the end.
