Does Auto Brightness actually help save battery life my Acer Nitro 5.?

I've tried searching for this answer on the Internet but it mostly points to mobiles and tablets and not really on my Acer Nitro 5. So I'd like to ask, does auto brightness actually save battery life? Or does having the lowest brightness at all times save more?
