N4640g fails to cold boot first time

Hi everyone.

I have a n4640g and it fails to boot first time after shutdown.

It says

Reboot and select proper boot device or insert boot media in selected device an press a key.

Nothing works but if i ctrl alt del, it boots correctly.

Storage is a sandisk m.2 sata ssd

There was a hdd inside for a short time until i replaced it with the ssd but i don't remember failure to boot.

I flashed the latest bios r2 b1 but nothing changed.

Fiddled with all bios settings but nothing.

This is driving me crazy.

Have you tried an F12 on boot and look at your boot order in bios ?

  • There are allot of guides on this problem, this is Acers solution "No Bootable Device" Error Message" or and if that dosent work then look here at this "no bootable device" as its the same as your "Reboot and select proper boot device or insert boot media in selected device and press a key" try all those steps from these guides as one of those solutions should fix your problem.

The issue is the SSD isn't fully up when the BIOS tries to load the EFI files. Turn off Fast Start and see if that helps. You can also switch Quiet Boot off in the BIOS which spits some extra text to the screen during that process.

    Thank you for your suggestions.

Doing F12 to bring up the boot menu does nothing. I still end up at the no boot found.

Ctrl alt del and F12 afterwards gives me the boot menu with just 1 option, windows.

    Resetting to defaults does nothing.

Quick boot and quiet boot has no effect.

The ssd is correctly identified in the bios sata0 and in the boot order, even seeing that it had a windows efi install.

But it won't boot unless i ctrl alt del.

I tried taking the power chord out of the unit, then back in.

Now it boots fine but if i shut down from windows menu or by power button, i'm back at no boot.

Curiously enough, for each situation (power chord, power button, ctrl alt del, etc) the message is the same but is either top left on the screen or top middle or it's brighter or darker.

I have not yet seen such weird behavior.

I will try and downgrade the bios. Hope it's gonna work.

  • Remove the RTC battery as that will reset the bios and super IO as these chips might need resetting, don't downgrade the bios, also take the ram modules out and clean its pins/plugs and leave them out for 5 min reconnect and try again.

So i tried just with the old 500g HDD.

No problem. Boots perfectly every time, no matter what.

    But it's slow. That's why i got a ssd.

    So ssd and hdd.

Bios does not see ssd, just hdd.

    Boots fine but extremely slow.

Windows sees both ssd and hdd.

Upon reboot and everafter, windows mounts just the ssd but no hdd.

But partitioning tools only see the hdd.

    WTF.

    There's something reaaaaaly broken here.

    Will try battery out.

    Don't have high hopes though.

Took out the battery an put it back after 5min.

Settings were reset but no change in behavior.

Leave the battery out for a couple of hours at least with the cord unplugged

Also , I'd do a SHIFT while restarting and go to diagnostic mode.

This link is confusing but may help.

Boot Enable has to be active to see the F12 Boot Menu also did you clone the SSD or do a Window Create USB ?

Sounds more and more like the SSD isn't working right.
