I have an Acer Aspire 7 A717-72G-56ZA. The 2TB internal storage hard drive has crashed. Can I replace the internal 2TB HDD with a Samsung 870 QVO SATA III 2.5 inch SSD 4TB?

Thank you,

As I posted before as this is another same post bripenny24, you can replace it with the Samsung 2.5” SSD as they are the same SATA III type drives but the SSD will give you much much if not 100% better performance to your mechanical drive. The bottom line with all the Samsung 2.5" SATA III SSD drives is that their criteria is 'what you are going to use these type of drives for'? The best/quickest SSD of the four 2.5" SSD's that Samsung has available is the 860 PRO SATA III 2.5 inch SSD but it will depend on its intended use. If you are looking for a high performance 2.5” SSD to situate onto a workstation, editing, gaming, then the 860 PRO SATA III is the way to go but, the 860 PRO comes in a max capacity of 4TB while the 870 QVO comes up to a max capacity of 8TB, which is the difference between the 860/860 PRO SATA III range while the 870 EVO SATA III 2.5 comes in max 2TB.

For the vast majority of PC users, the 860 QVO appears to be the best price to value option of all the aforementioned Samsung SSDs. Sure, it does have a performance drop of around 14% in comparison to the 860 PRO SATA III, but for most uses this effective speed difference will hardly be noticeable, and given that the SSD comes with a $30 price cut it is well worth its price. If you are a competitive gamer and fractions of a second of loading times matter for you, then perhaps the 860 PRO might justify its price, but once again for most users the 860 QVO is the most optimal option available. Those are the pros and cons of these drives available from Samsung and/or any other manufacturers but the Samsung is a great drive as I've used an 850 EVO 2.5" SSD for over 5years and have had great reliability and usage and I'm still using it and very satisficed as they have great supporting software also. Make sure that you have TRIM command enabled in windows as that also assists these drives to function at their peak in windows.

    Hello Steven,

My sincere thanks for your quick reply. You mention that the Samsung 870 EVO SATA III 2.5 comes in max 2TB.

On the Samsung Australia website they have the 870 QVO SATA III 2.5 inch SSD 4TB (MZ-77Q4T0BW). As this is no doubt a newer model and has 4TB storage will it also work in my Acer Aspire 7 A717-72G-56ZA?

I will be using the SSD as a data storage drive to store photos, documents etc.

    Kind regards,

  • All current models come with uefi firmware. Therefore, they must support capacities greater than 2tb:
