Acer Aspire v17 vn7-792g Motherboard Issue - Not Switching on & No Charging Light

Hello everyone!

I am trying to diagnose what seems to be a motherboard issue with my Acer Aspire v17 vn7-792g.

Currently the laptop has no charging light and does not switch on - with or without the charging adapter plugged in. There is no visible damage to the board itself.

I have used a multimeter to test the power supply and DC jack, both of which are good.

However, as soon as I check the live pins on the motherboard after the DC jack, the voltage shows 0.5 volts and begins to slowly decrease to 0.

I understand that a component on the board is likely shorted out causing the input power to ground/dissipate.

Does anyone have any recommendations on how I can further check this board? Are there any components in particular worth checking considering the above? And is there a schematic available online to see how the board is wired together, as well as a source to compare the multimeter values against?

Any help is much appreciated.

Many thanks,

Koray

Power issues are complex and your problem is probably in the primary power sections of your mobo, which could be a capacitor or two way switch circuitry component that has shorted out and needs tracing and replaced, to do this you need more than a multimeter as you need the appropriate tools and to be diagnosed by an experienced tech that has experience and knows what he/she is doing. My advice to you is to take your laptop to either Acer or a technician in your area that can do this job. Its useless to advice you on anything as and if you don't have the appropriate tools then you can do more damage than fix anything. If you want to learn about these power issues have a look on the web like on youtube at Electronic computer school or Northbridgefix as these guys are experts and have allot of videos on laptops with no power issues and then you can see how complex it is and what tools you need. IMO don't attempt this job if you don't have the experience and proper tools!
