I have an acer swift laptop and I would like to make some desktop icon shortcuts for some apps that I've downloaded, but I can only make them for things that were already on the laptop.
I've tried to open the file location and open up the screen with all apps on it and right clicking to see if I'm given the option but I cannot figure out how to do it.
I don't want to pin them to the taskbar either.
any help would be appreciated

When right clicking on top of the executable, send to, isn't there an option for Desktop (create shortcut)?

No there isn't, when I right click on the app from the taskbar the only options are (launch the app, unpin from taskbar and if its open the option to close it.)
I've also tried opening the personalisation for the desktop and from what I can see there is no way to create app shortcuts from there either. when you right click the main desktop it brings up one option "create new" and it has the option to create a shortcut from there but I couldn't seem to make one for any apps.

Try the following then, look for the application name in the Windows magnifying glass, right click and select Open File Location, after that, see if you can find the executable, right click, send to and select Desktop

    1. Click on the Launcher and then select the Up arrow.
    2. Locate the app that you want to add to your Shelf.
    3. Right-click on the app icon and select Pin to Shelf.
    4. Your app should now be visible on the Shelf at the bottom of your screen.
You have to be in the launcher to get the context menu...

so the magnifying glass route did not work and I'm not trying to save it to the taskbar I want the applications pinned/shortcutted to the main desktop screen.
I'm downloading them from the Microsoft store so I don't know if that would make a difference or not but I downloaded google chrome from a browser and it auto added it to my main desktop.
as you can see here, and if I right click any of the ones on the left side screen there in no option to remove them from the screen. where the ones on the taskbar have the option to pin/remove from taskbar or pin to start.
    I'm completely out of ideas.

OK, so we know now that you don't have a Chromebook, since your screen shots are for Windows. Which Swift model do you have? It should be something like SFxxx-xxx-xxxx and the model number is usually on the same sticker as the SN and SNID.

In Windows 10 if you find the application in the start menu you can right click the icon and choose Open File Location. From the resulting window you can right click the selected shortcut and choose Send to Desktop. In Windows 11 it's the same except for one additional step, When you right click the select shortcut you have to choose Show More Options then the Send To...

Ok so model no. Is SF314-43-R65C, and as for the open file location I'm struggling to do so, as there does not seem to be an option for that specific command, not on start, or through the microsoft store or the task bar.

I've also tried to open from file explorer but as these applications are installed straight from the Microsoft store its difficult to do so. im also not able to click and drag to the desktop. I don't know if its helpful but its windows 11 home edition
