Hi there,
I am just having a new Acer Swift 3, so I wonder how to save the battery life?
The User Manual mentioned, "Use AC power whenever possible, reserving battery for mobile use." I do not really understand it.
Like, we could use the Acer swift 3 with AC power only?

I understand you need more details on the statement "Use AC power whenever possible, reserving battery for mobile use."

When you use AC power on your computer it is going to indirectly charge your battery.   Once the battery is charged completely you can remove the charger and use it just like a portable or mobile device.    It is just similar to how we use our smart phone on daily basis.

Once the battery is drained out, then you can once again plug the ac adapter to charge the battery so that you can use it as a portable device.

Alternatively you can also use the computer by simply connecting the charger cable.  You can keep the laptop on the table, connect the charger and just use  it like a Desktop computer.

Acer recommends power cycling the laptop's battery at least once per month to keep it from losing capacity. Leaving a battery discharged or fully charged for long periods of time can be bad for the device.

While a laptop can feasibly run perpetually while plugged into AC power, it's bad for the laptop and lithium-based battery in the long run. It's a case of "if you don't use it, you lose it" with battery capacity: power cycling, or draining the battery from full to empty, helps prevent long-term damage to an always charged battery.

The truth is that laptops and their batteries constitute a complicated system, and there are a few different angles that need to be viewed. With lithium batteries, good charging behavior is simplified. The lithium batteries will stop drawing power when they are fully charged. Since they don’t overcharge, leaving the laptop plugged in isn’t a problem like it used to be in the past.

You don’t have to wait for the battery to charge up first. This is because the charger is powerful enough to run the computer and charge the battery at the same time. You are not killing the battery with this function.

While constant charging comes with the loss of convenience (since you’re always attached to a wall), it does help promote a healthy laptop battery.

Most of laptop batteries typically are built to handle 500 charge cycles. A single cycle is basically one discharge to 0%, followed by a recharge back up to 100%. So, allowing your laptop battery to drain to 50% and then charging it back to 100%, for example, is one-half of a charge cycle.

One way to prevent too many full recharges is to use the “Battery Saver” feature available as part of the Windows. You can also figure out which programs are most responsible for using your battery. In Windows 10, those details are in Settings > System > Battery, under the Battery Usage Per App heading. In Windows 11, go to Settings > System > Power & Battery, then open the Battery Usage section. Next, go to Settings > System > Power and Sleep (Windows 10) or Power and Battery (Windows 11) and set your display to turn off when it's not in use. Changing this setting from 5 minutes to 2 or 3 minutes can also make a noticeable difference.

So, Saying that constantly charging a laptop battery doesn’t damage it is an over simplification.
