CPU Fan Upgrade for Aspire XC-1660G-UW93

The stock fan is pretty loud, also not sure what the curve is set to but it revs up pretty high then slows down.  None the less wanted to see if I could replace the cooler with an aftermarket one? Are they standard intel motherboard mounts? Seems like as long as it was a low profile cpu cooler it should work but wanted to make sure or ask if anyone has done it before.

thanks!

Thanks.  Posts weren’t exactly what I was looking for.  I can confirm a normal 92x92mm fan will not just drop in as a replacement cpu fan.  You could if you did some modifying of the fan but if it’s a square fan the corner will block the second ram slot.  Not an ideal option.

The socket is an LGA 1200 and those fans/heat sinks are pretty common. The stock fan is round with the four mounting holes and 92mm between them. The heat sink is set for the 73mm used by the socket IIRC and the fan mounts outside the heatsink mounts. The fan Larry linked should work.

I couldn’t find a 92mm round fan, that would likely work (and just use the included heat sink.  That Alpine CPU cooler looks like it attaches via pushpin, I guess I’d just have to take the whole motherboard out to mount it.

You might ping the user in that thread, he was going to report back near the end of July, but he might be getting close...

reviving and old thread. I replaced my CPU fan with a stock AMD fan. Used existing screws in current heatsink. Only modification was removing the AMD shroud which just has two small screws under the AMD branding and then pops off. Ran the CPU full throttle for a handful of minutes and didn’t notice much noise. The CPU fan is definitely not silent but just barely audible. No revving up like a jet engine as the previous one did.

Hi Where did you purchase the AMD fan?

I already had it from my Ryzen 5 5600 CPU. I used an aftermarket cooler with that CPU so I had it lying around. It’s the same CPU fan on most budget or mid range CPUs from AMD. The AMD Wraith cooler, it’s about $9 USD on Amazon. You do have to remove the little shroud around the fan for it to fit, but it’s just two small screws.
