I recently installed a replacement screen for my Acer Aspire 5 A514-52-78MD 14in. I made sure to be careful with the pins and not bend the delicate wires. When I booted my computer, the Acer logo appeared, along with the loading circle for a brief moment then vanished. The screen stayed black and stayed that way. The computer was clearly still on because I could hear the fans. I will note its battery is extremely low at the moment since I havent used it in a while.  Thoughts on what’s going on? Any suggestions?

What screen did you fit? Give us the model number and type, as your problem could be the EDP cable that connects to the mobo and screen that could be faulty and/or shortening out due to its thin cables shortening out hence and why your laptop boots to an image but gets shorted when these cables or pins short out at ether screen or mobo ends. Have a look at this site as this is one of the OEM screens for your laptop "Acer ASPIRE 5 A514-52 SERIES Replacement LCD Screens from $59.99as they are a specialist site in selling all appropriate OEM screens for all laptops and for your OEM A514-52 screens, as buying screen from sites like eBay, Amazon and EliExpress will lead to the wrong screens being purchase or these retailers sending you the wrong screen (which btw happened to me many times) so have a look at the below attached screen list and EDP cable list that is OEM for your laptop and only buy those screens for your laptop! Good luck and hope this helps you out.

The screen part# is B140HAN04.0. Although the new screen looks exactly the same, it appears it has part#B140HAN05.4. So it’s apparently not the same…. Does this mean I just fried my laptop? I told seller on eBay exactly what I needed. They responded, typed out exact part number I needed and said yes this will work. What an *****.

Anyone? Will installing this fry the wires that connect the mobo to the screen? Will I now have to replace these too?

The only correct OEM screen part numbers for your laptop are the ones that I've given you above! The you got from eBay part# B140HAN05.4 is NOT listed as an Acer OEM and correct screen for your laptop, but you might have other image screen issues with this laptop as I've mentioned to you above. As and if as you say "When I booted my computer, the Acer logo appeared, along with the loading circle for a brief moment then vanished" it could be other issues as that the eBay screen could work and you have other issues with your laptop and its not the screen? I can only tell you what the correct Acer quoted OEM screens for your laptop are, anything else might work or might not work? The correct screen part # suitable for your laptop I've told you what they are above. As whatever the seller tells you from eBay could be wrong or could be right but, I always fit the suggested ACER OEM PART NUMBERS ONLY and nothing else.

Also and your 2nd post above "Will installing this fry the wires that connect the mobo to the screen? Will I now have to replace these too?" NO it won't fry your wires but the screen will not work and/or give you a correct image as its 30 pins plug is setup differently hence and why you only got "the Acer logo appeared, along with the loading circle for a brief moment then vanished" as and also that could be a laptop circuitry problem which you will have to narrow down and if its that then take your laptop to an experienced technician to test and work out the exact problems.
